#811Day is National Safe Digging Day 👷⛏️ As 811 Day approaches this Sunday, Aug. 11, we are reminding our customers and communities to always call 811 at least two-three days before starting any digging project to have underground utility lines marked for free. “No matter how small the digging project is, it’s critical,” says Ted Gribble, PE, principal manager of Wildfire and Public Safety at SCE. “We remind homeowners and professional excavators alike that calling #811 before any dig is the only way to perform this work safely, protecting you and your community.” Data shows about 40% of homeowners and professional excavators do not call 811, leading to hundreds of thousands of utility strike incidents nationwide and causing an estimated $30 million in damages annually. #Safety Tips 🐍 March through October is peak rattlesnake season. SCE services a vast amount of prime #rattlesnake terrain. Our crews may come across them while working on the power grid, which is why we educate them on species they might encounter and how to respond. What do you do if you happen to see one? First, try to remain calm. Fear of snakes often comes from the misconception that these reptiles are looking to attack, says Jack Goldfarb, SCE herpetologist and resident reptile expert. “They’re probably more scared of you than you are of them,” Goldfarb says. The rattling you hear is a warning, telling you to back off. Learn more about his environmental work, how he helps our field crews stay safe, and get more safety tips at https://lnkd.in/gfQJSzQd. #environment #nature #ecology #animals

New #Video 🚓 Watch and ride along with South Pasadena Police Department Sgt. Tony Abdalla inside the nation's first all-electric police car fleet. He said “zero emission is icing on the cake” when it comes to the groundbreaking Tesla vehicles, noting that these #cars not only cost less to operate, but also exceed gas cars in acceleration, braking, safety, and overall handling. “This thing is like a spaceship,” SPPD Corporal Tyler Borrello said. “Way faster than our old cars.“ .” The department partnered with Southern California Edison (SCE)'s Charge Ready program, which provided new charging infrastructure to support the 20-car fleet. #ElectricVehicles 🚓 City of South Pasadena unveiled the nation’s first all-electric police car fleet today, along with new banks of chargers. Southern California Edison (SCE)’s Jill C. Anderson joined with local officials at South Pasadena City Hall to see the groundbreaking, all-Tesla fleet on display. Mayor Evelyn Zneimer said that this transition reflects the city’s vision of a sustainable future and a “21st Century police force that is safe, clean and saves taxpayer dollars.” The city partnered with SCE’s Charge Ready program, which brought in the charging infrastructure. “Now we have 34 chargers installed to support a fleet size of 20,” South Pasadena Police Sgt. Tony Abdalla shared. “This gives us the necessary and desirable tools to do our job.” LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Assemblymember Mike Fong, Senator Anthony Portantino, and California Air Resources Board (CARB) Executive Officer Steven Cliff were also on hand to commemorate this landmark step toward a clean energy future. As for future electrification upgrades, the South Pasadena City Hall, Police Station and Fire Station buildings are each set to be backed up by a solar-powered system with battery storage, increasing critical power resilience in the event of an outage. #Energy storage adoption is rising. ☀ In the last three months alone, approximately 70% of all Southern California Edison (SCE) residential #solar applications included storage. With its ability to help lower bills and maintain power in emergencies, Rene Valencia, SCE’s manager of Customer Generation Incentive Programs, agrees that battery storage is the future of clean energy: “Investing in a battery storage system gives customers the ability to keep and use more of their self-generated energy that would otherwise be sent back to the grid,” he said in the Energized story below, “ultimately keeping their bills lower.” See the full article by Lynnette Round: https://lnkd.in/gqRgxTdT
