Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide crucial services for more than 125,000 New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders, all across the state. Governor Kathy Hochul, the New York State Legislature, and OPWDD have launched extensive initiatives aimed at professionalizing this vital workforce, promoting public awareness of direct support careers, providing advanced educational opportunities, credentials, and career ladders for DSPs, and enhancing their wages.

Services for the UnderServed (S:US) believes every New Yorker has the right to lead a life of purpose. Since 1978, S:US has been turning this belief into reality by advocating for people with life circumstances marked by homelessness, intellectual/developmental disability, behavioral health and addiction challenges, poverty, criminal justice involvement, and trauma. Our dedicated workforce of 1,800 provides services and supports to transform the lives of more than 37,000 individuals and families in New York City and Long Island. By delivering high quality services that address the complex circumstances of each individual, we help transform lives, improve neighborhoods, and break the cycle of poverty for current and future generations of New Yorkers.

Saying hello to Starhill Phase II! On July 16th, Marvel , along with Services for the UnderServed (S:US) and Bronx Pro Group, LLC celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for Starhill Phase II while looking up at the recently completed Starhill Phase I, also designed by Marvel. Starhill Residences are located in the Bronx, New York on the former site of the Starhill Health Center. Built in two phases, the project contains 570 affordable housing units, a shared amenity bar including a fitness room, community room, children’s playroom, and a supportive service suite providing on site services to the 250 supportive units within the two buildings. A park space of roughly 11,500SF will be provided with access for both the community and the building tenants. Congrats to BlueHub borrower Bronx Pro Group, LLC and Services for the UnderServed (S:US) on the groundbreaking of Starhill Phase II at 1600 Grand Ave. in Morris Heights. This significant redevelopment, financially supported by BlueHub through a participation loan with CSH, the Source for Housing Solutions, will bring 244 affordable apartments, including 74 supportive housing units for formerly homeless individuals and families. The project also features a 10,000 square foot community facility and 11,500 square feet of open space accessible to the public. This is the eighth joint venture between S:US and Bronx Pro Group, furthering their mission to provide over 830 units of affordable housing to the West Bronx.
