Last month, we announced the second successful Ultimate Burst Pressure test for our LIFE 285 module. The objective of this test was to exceed the NASA 4x Safety Factor of 60.8 psi with a consistent result to our first test of 77 psi. This second test delivered similar results – within five percent of the pressure loading of the first test – with this one reaching 74 psi, exceeding NASA’s 4x safety factor by 22 percent. Giving humanity a platform in Space to benefit life on Earth.
About us
Sierra Space is building a shared ecosystem in space for scientific collaboration and innovation to benefit life on Earth. With technologies that make space more affordable and accessible, we’re dedicated to creating a prosperous and secure space economy that will benefit all of humanity. Rapidly advancing toward the launch of the next generation of space transportation, the world’s first commercial spaceplane, Dream Chaser®, will perform cargo supply and return missions for NASA - delivering up to 12,000 pounds of cargo to the International Space Station (ISS) at a time. Sierra Space is also the developer of the Large Integrated Flexible Environment (LIFE™), a modular, three-story inflatable habitat that we are developing as we build the first commercial space station. The unique structure will provide opportunities for multiple businesses including manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors, to optimize zero gravity benefits.

In preparation for ongoing Advanced Plant Habitat (APH) studies, our APH Facility Support team is sending essential parts to the International Space Station on today’s commercial resupply mission that launched from SLC-40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. APH is the largest, fully automated plant growth research facility used to conduct plant bioscience research on the International Space Station (ISS). During the second full-scale Ultimate Burst Pressure (UBP) test at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, our teams inflated the test article until it failed, to determine how strong its softgoods material would be under the extreme stresses that can be found in the harsh environment of space. The full-scale LIFE 285 article in this test reached 74 psi before it burst, which well exceeds (+22%) #NASA's recommended level of 60.8 psi (maximum operating pressure of 15.2 psi multiped by a safety factor of four). This test result is within 5% of the prior full-scale article (+27%). These back-to-back test results accelerate Sierra Space’s path to flight certification, verifying scalability for 10 cubic-meter and up to 1,400 cubic-meter structures based on the company's current softgoods inflatable architecture. Sierra Space is currently gearing up for a first test of its 500 cubic-meter space station technology next year. Full Video Link: https://bit.ly/46frrwF

Sierra Space has achieved another major milestone in the development of the first commercial space station. The second Ultimate Burst Pressure test of our full-scale LIFE 285 structure at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center exceeded #NASA's recommended 4x safety levels by 22%. The full-scale article is one third the volume of the International Space Station and will be integral part of future commercial space destinations. Press Release: https://bit.ly/3yfzr43

"You take a look at what we're doing with softgoods, and there are very few companies that can do this. It takes an investment. We're testing articles, here over and over again. We see this technology as a game changer.” - LaShawn Buckley Stay tuned this week.
