SOS changes young lives, building character and leadership in youth through mentoring outdoors
About us
No matter what social, societal, or economic barriers exist—SOS Outreach believes every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. It starts with skiing or snowboarding, because it’s on the mountain that kids unearth the courage to step outside of their comfort zones, develop new strengths within themselves and cultivate lifelong skills. Since 1993, we’ve been using mentorship and a proven, multi-year curriculum, to empower kids and teenagers to discover their true potential. Mission SOS Outreach changes young lives, builds character and develops leadership in youth who face risks through mentoring outdoors. Core Values SOS Outreach has six core values: courage, discipline, integrity, wisdom, compassion and humility. These values are central to our programs and operation.

As we're in the midst of the 2024 #ParisOlympicGames, we have to throw it back to 2012 when SOS was able to provide a fully sponsored trip to take participants to the London Games. The power of sports to bring people together and build community is undeniable. It's evidenced both through our work at SOS and the international appeal of the #Olympics. What an incredible experience. Arn Menconi MBA

Amplifying Access: Closing the Nature Gap and Fostering Inclusivity in Outdoor Education and Recreation Opportunities
Hi, All. I NEED your collective help! Please share this post, like, and comment for visibility. Thank you for your support in advance! Rising Routes, alongside University of Colorado Boulder Masters of the Environment (MENV) Capstone Project, is conducting a research study on equity in outdoor recreation and education providers across Colorado. The goal is to enhance collaboration and support for outdoor educational and recreational providers of underrepresented peoples in the state. We are seeking decision-makers, executive directors, or leaders of outdoor education or recreation organizations to complete a short questionnaire (https://lnkd.in/gECd-ERB) to help us gather valuable insights. The questionnaire, designed by esteemed organizations like The Wilderness Society, Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), Next 100 Colorado, The Donnell-Kay Foundation, Colorado Parks and Wildlife should take about 30 minutes to complete. Your participation will aid in shaping local and statewide decision-making processes. Upon completion, selected individuals may be contacted for a brief interview to delve deeper into their responses. Their input will play a crucial role in informing policies, planning, and development strategies. By participating, you will be entered into a draw to win a $100 Visa Gift Card and a strategic coaching session with the Rising Routes team to advance your organizational goals valued at $1,500. #Outdoors #Survey #EquityintheOutdoors #DiversifytheOutdoors #DEI #OpportunitiesForAll #GetOutside

Having the ability to show, really physically, a different environment has a direct impact that we've seen time and again in expanding horizons, expanding goals, expanding perspectives of what is possible," Seth Ehrlich says. "The outdoors is such an amazing place to support in that expansion of what is possible in a kid's life." Check out the full piece in Denver Westword. https://lnkd.in/dpbjcxwe

For the fourth edition of the Collector’s Art Series, artist and advocate Abby Wren designs a limited-release Sauternes Cask whiskey label and mural in the RiNo Art District in Denver, Colorado. In her design, Wren uses vivid colors and shapes to bring awareness to her message of inclusivity, “Different is Dope!” After losing all her hair to Alopecia, an autoimmune disease, Wren began using bold, creative makeup to express her femininity, believing in the power of creativity as a healing source. A donation of $5 per bottle will be donated to SOS Outreach, a nonprofit organization that uses mentorship, outdoor adventure, and a progressive curriculum to foster a deep sense of belonging in young people. At a recent fundraiser, the partnership was brought to life with a signature cocktail that introduced many to Breckenridge Distillery and marks the continuation of the Collectors Art Series collaboration between whiskey, artist, and like-minded organizations.

Meet Avery! Avery Rognan is a recent SOS graduate and Park City program alumni. Two summers ago, Avery participated in SOS' Career Development Program where she was placed in a summer-long internship with the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team. After the internship ended, Avery was offered to stay on part-time during the school year, which she accepted. Our Career Program was intentionally developed to create opportunities like these for young people across our communities. It's incredible to see our participants rise to the occasion and grow both personally and professionally. 🎥 : Headlamp Studios
