About us
The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) wants all Tennessee students to succeed in school, college, career, and life. SCORE drives for changes that transform education in Tennessee – from kindergarten through postsecondary education. We advocate for students, monitor progress, research and innovate new approaches, and engage and empower educators to achieve four goals: 1. All students receive an excellent public K-12 education. 2. All students earn a credential or postsecondary degree. 3. All students are prepared for a career that enables economic independence. 4. Across all goals, all students have equitable opportunities for success. Our strategic priorities are excellent educators, high expectations, and K-12 to career alignment. An independent, nonprofit, and nonpartisan education organization, SCORE was founded in 2009 by Senator Bill Frist, MD, former US Senate Majority Leader. We are student focused, research based, and mission driven.

In a guest column for The Tennessean, Marquinta Harvey, PhD of the Belmont University Data Collaborative explains that factors like employment, income security, education, and living conditions can increase stress and anxiety for students, affecting their well being and educational outcomes. Read her column here: https://ow.ly/WHKZ50SUb4M Dr. Harvey shared data on this topic at a mental health symposium hosted earlier this year by SCORE and NashvilleHealth. The latest memo in our Policy Pillars series highlights Tennessee’s strong foundation of research-based literacy strategies. These foundational policies have yielded record-breaking ELA student outcomes, with our third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students making significant proficiency gains since the pandemic declines of 2021 and even surpassing 2019’s previous highs. Students who aren’t reading on grade level by third grade have a harder time catching up, meaning fewer opportunities for success in life. We must continue to advance and evaluate these foundational policies so that all Tennessee students are prepared for success. Read the memo: https://ow.ly/6OHG50STkGx

Our new report, “The Future of Good Jobs: Projections through 2031,” forecasts the number of good jobs in 2031. Our findings underscore that economic opportunity will increasingly favor workers with higher levels of education and training. While there will be good jobs on every educational pathway in 2031, only 15% will be available to workers on the high school pathway, compared to 66% to workers on the bachelor's degree pathway and 19% to workers on the middle-skills pathway. https://bit.ly/3YeUD4U
