Check out what our incredible STEM Scholars have been up to! 🌟 Over the past four weeks, these talented rising sophomores and juniors have been hard at work developing research projects focused on scientific investigations and engineering design problems. Working in groups, they collaborated with esteemed partners like The Wistar Institute, Merck, Braskem, DuPont, and Justice-Oriented Youth (JoY) Education Lab. These partners provided invaluable guidance, teaching lab techniques and skills essential for their projects. Our own Science & Education team also joined in to enhance their project management and science communication skills. Last Friday, the students proudly unveiled their amazing projects at the STEM Scholars summer showcase! 🚀✨ #STEM #STEMEducation #STEMLearning #franklininstitute

We were thrilled to host an inspiring group of students from the Ivory Coast at The Franklin Institute yesterday! Thanks to the KB Foundation Inc. for hosting the ASEC Mimosas youth soccer players for the LEAP Program, an international program that supports education, cultural exchange, and athletics for young boys, this summer. Our Senior Vice President of Science and Education, Darryl N. Williams, who also mentors for the KB Foundation, welcomed the group. Their visit included engaging brain science activities led by our Chief Bioscientist, Jayatri Das, and an adventurous exploration of our museum. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in making this visit memorable. We are proud to contribute to their enriching experience in Philadelphia! #franklininstitute #museum #sciencemuseum

We are honored to have hosted Governor Josh Shapiro and his Office of Digital Strategy at The Franklin Institute's Elaine Levitt and Joel Gershman Education and Conference Center for their Democracy Summer Camp. Over 50 creators from New York City, DC, Philadelphia, and Texas came together to discuss the upcoming election and how they can educate their audiences. This event is especially meaningful as we celebrate The Franklin Institute’s bicentennial this year. Just as the experimental spirit fueled the formation of our democracy 250 years ago, it continues to ignite our mission to inspire a passion for learning about science and technology. Thank you to Governor Shapiro and this team (Office of Governor Josh Shapiro) for choosing TFI for this event, and to everyone who participated!

#ICYMI: Our Senior Vice President of Science, Education, and Human Resources, Darryl N. Williams., recently appeared on the STEM EVERYDAY podcast to discuss the role of local museums in promoting #STEM education. “Ben Franklin was really about invention; he liked the idea of solving problems and the idea that whatever was created was for everybody. Ben Franklin didn’t believe in patents and didn’t like the idea of keeping things from people – he liked to share ideas, and I think that spirit of his is really also part of the fabric of what we try to do and what we try to create here at The Franklin Institute.” 🎧 Listen to Darryl’s full conversation with host Chris Woods today: https://lnkd.in/ezRgzFDe

The celebration continues! 🎉 On February 5, marking our 200th anniversary, we launched a 200-piece series on our Facebook and Instagram channels. The series shares captivating facts about our rich history and the incredible individuals who have shaped our journey. Check out some of our recent top posts ⬇ 🔭 The Observatory at The Franklin Institute, now known as The Holt & Miller Observatory, was one of the first public observatories in the United States. 🚀 At the special request of Commander Chris Ferguson, a stainless steel star cut from the original panel of the Fels Planetarium dome was flown into space aboard STS-135 on its final mission in 2011. The star returned with Commander Ferguson and is now permanently displayed in the planetarium hallway. 🧪 Starting in 1936, visitors at TFI marveled at the effects of extreme cold in a captivating exhibit called the Liquid Air Show. Join us as we celebrate our bicentennial and explore these incredible stories from our past! . . . #thefranklininstitute #franklininstitute #museum #thingstodoinphilly #visitphilly #phlvisitorcenter #discoverPHL
