It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the passing of our former President and CEO Dr. Brian Davis. For over four years he led The Maritime Aquarium with a type of professionalism and enthusiasm that still shines through today—from the staff he hired, to the Trustees he recruited, to the hundreds of thousands of guests he inspired. “Brian’s leadership, not only during his time here, but for decades across the zoo and aquarium community, is one that will be long remembered, appreciated, and modeled by future generations,” said Jason Patlis, current President and CEO of The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. Our thoughts are with Brian’s family, the team at Georgia Aquarium where Brian was serving as President and CEO, and all those whose lives are better because of him. Ocean protected. Lives connected.
About us
The mission of The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is to ignite a connection to Long Island Sound and the ocean to enrich the lives of all people and inspire action to protect our blue planet. For over 35 years, the Aquarium has played a significant role in shaping the landscape of Norwalk and the region. The second largest family attraction in Connecticut, and 50 miles from New York City, the Aquarium hosts nearly 450,000 guests annually. Its primary exhibits take guests on a voyage from the shallow salt marshes and estuaries to the depths of the Long Island Sound and the ocean beyond, culminating with habitats for sharks and harbor seals. Altogether, the Aquarium is home to more than 7,500 animals and 300 species in 75 exhibits. A new 4D Theater offers a unique sensory film experience for guests. Its education programs introduce approximately 80,000 students, campers and scouts to marine and STEM education. The Aquarium is recognized as a top aquarium in the nation, and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It is an active participant in the local and regional community. The strength of the Aquarium is its 65 full-time staff, and part-time and seasonal staff, in addition to our volunteers.

As a member of the Aquarium Conservation Partnership, we thank the Biden-Harris Administration for the first comprehensive strategy to tackle the plastic pollution crisis in the United States! With the majority of plastic made from fossil fuels, plastic pollution is a climate issue, and we are encouraged that today’s strategy includes opportunities for climate action. As aquariums, we recognize the connection between plastic and climate and are working to address both in our own operations to protect our ocean and freshwater environments and the wildlife and communities that depend on them. We are thrilled to announce the opening of our new exhibit, Travel Back in Maritime! As you enter The Hall of Extinct Ocean Predators, you will spot a 30-foot mosasaur floating above your head and an ichthyosaur fossil from the Jurassic period. As you move through the Aquarium, you will discover the species in Long Island Sound’s family lines date back much further than you may have thought. Plus, you can watch these fossils come to life in our newest 4-D film “Sea Monsters 4-D: Prehistoric Adventure,” now playing in our theater.
