The Pittsburgh Foundation announced that its Critical Needs Alert online giving event on Aug. 6 raised $1.59 million in just 16 hours to support 165 nonprofit organizations in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. “The success of this year’s Critical Needs Alert reinforces the belief of people in southwestern Pennsylvania that nonprofits provide invaluable services to our neighbors in need,” Lisa Schroeder, Pittsburgh Foundation president and CEO, said in a prepared statement. She has led the foundation since 2019. “With more than a decade of Critical Needs Alerts behind us, we are grateful for the enormity of generosity from our community during even the most challenging times.” Critical Needs Alerts began in 2013. The Pittsburgh Foundation has raised more than $15 million since.

"It’s too soon, of course, to assess the full impact of 'A Second Look: Racial Equity and Arts Funding in Greater Pittsburgh.' The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council report was issued just Monday, and local arts leaders are still absorbing it. But the issue the study addresses is, sadly, a perennial one, previously highlighted by the 2018 GPAC report whose findings it builds upon. ... Nicole Henniger (Nicole H.), program officer for arts and culture at The Pittsburgh Foundation, praised the report as “critically important.” “The findings show that there is a lot of work still to do,” Henninger said in a statement. “The report tells us that achieving funding equity is doable — and that it is essential to the future health of the entire arts ecosystem.” - 90.5 WESA's Bill O'Driscoll
