In conjunction with Atlanta Housing (AH) - Atlanta's public housing authority - the ULI Atlanta assembled an Advisory Services panel (ASP) to examine AH's operational and financial structure and provide recommendations for further development to accommodate the anticipated population growth over the next decades. The ASP found that AH "stands at the precipice of a transformative era. AH’s ambitious goal to create and preserve 10,000 affordable housing units necessitates a strategic, multipronged approach that transcends traditional funding models and emphasizes both community impact and financial sustainability." The ASP's recommendations cover three phases of a long-term plan on both fiscal and operational fronts to enhance in-house financial modeling capabilities to optimize resource deployment, leverage city resources and explore new funding opportunities to alleviate financial burdens on AH projects, and prioritize sustainability in all new projects, including mandating LEED certification for developers and construction teams. As the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics kick off, development in the next Olympic host city is already well underway. Milan, host of the 2026 Winter Olympics, has begun the difficult task of developing an Olympic Village with purpose beyond the games. A Village designed less “for Day 1 than it is for Day 1,000 or 5,000,” with a future as student housing, a park, and more, aims to stitch the semi-industrial Porta Romana neighborhood on the edge of the city back into the fabric of Milan. Ten developments from across North America have been selected as winners of ULI’s 2024 ULI Americas Awards for Excellence. ULI began the Awards for Excellence program in 1979 to recognize superior development efforts in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Winning projects represent the highest standards of achievement in the land use profession and encompass a wide range of land uses, sizes, investments, and geographic locations. “This year’s winners set a high standard of excellence and innovation in social, environmental, and design values for our industry,” said jury chair Doug Voigt, Partner, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. “The ULI Americas Award for Excellence program plays a crucial role in advancing ULI’s mission and demonstrating how distinguished developments can positively impact whole communities and enrich the built environment worldwide. The jury was impressed by the high caliber of entries, notably the diversity of projects tackling the affordable housing crisis, and it was a privilege to work alongside my fellow jurors.” A special congratulations to: Cleveland Foundation HQ: Cleveland Foundation East Campus Modernization Project: Microsoft Canary Landing: DREAM Asset Management Corporation, Kilmer Group, Tricon Residential Lincoln Common: McCaffery, Hines Mill Creek Valley: St. Louis CITY SC, Great Rivers Greenway Omaha Riverfront: City of Omaha, Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority Avivo Village: Avivo 550 Madison: The Olayan Group Austin Housing Conservancy: Affordable Central Texas Bottleworks District: Hendricks Commercial Properties Read more at https://lnkd.in/dpbjBZuT
