As #OneGreatTeam, each of us plays a vital role in caring for our patients and each other. Today we feature Luis Morales, a speech language pathologist at UNC Health Chatham. Luis is starting his second year with UNC Health. In his free time, Luis enjoys reading books to his children, hiking at the Eno River, and cycling at the American Tobacco Trail. "I enjoy helping sick patients communicate their needs when they are struggling to do so," says Luis. "I’m able to build trust and rapport with patients by gradually helping them build confidence in their ability to communicate. It's wonderful to be a part of their healing journey."

About a year ago,15-year-old Evan McGuire received a new kidney, which he calls his “superpower.” After his transplant, he was able to get back to doing what he loves—playing baseball! His mom, Stephanie McGuire, says making the 2.5 hour drive to see the transplant team at UNC Children’s has been worth it, and they are like family now. Dr. Keisha Gibson has been Evan’s nephrologist since he was a baby. “By looking at him, you wouldn't know that the journey he's been on, and we attribute that to UNC Health taking such good care of him,” McGuire says.
