"'It Ends With Us' is a story of how people repeat bad patterns in their lives, even (or maybe especially) when they don’t realize it. And the way this is conveyed is at once the essence of soap opera and also quite emotionally shrewd," writes Variety's Owen Gleiberman. "For Lily really loves Rile, and just like her we experience their relationship from the inside. When we see a glint of angry fire in Rile, we want it to go away. Justin Baldoni’s performance is rivetingly layered — he makes Rile a compartmentalized man, one who’s truly trying yet is unable to see himself." Read the full review here: https://lnkd.in/gWy7GJXC

Joaquin Phoenix has dropped out of Todd Haynes‘ untitled gay romance film, just five days before filming was set to begin in Mexico. A source close to the production tells Variety the actor got “cold feet.” Entire sets had been built in Guadalajara before Phoenix made the last-minute decision to exit the film, in early July. The movie, produced by Killer Films and backed by sales agent MK2 Film, had already sold to international distributors ahead of production. Sources tell Variety the project is in peril, indicating that Phoenix’s role cannot be recast. The crew is now out of work, and stakeholders in the film still need to be paid. Losses could exceed seven figures. https://bit.ly/3WHSRqA
