This summer, we celebrated Wakefern's interns with our "Building Futures Today" series 🌟 that highlights the different opportunities offered at the cooperative. Our final spotlight shines on Rutgers Business School student Stephanie Tapia, who joined our Quality Assurance team and learned how the department ensures products and services meet quality standards and expectations. Stephanie says she applied to Wakefern to learn how those standards play a key role in the supply chain. Stephanie says our Bowl & Basket Chocolate Chip Cookies and Strawberry Macarons definitely pass her personal tastebud standards 🙂. As part of Wakefern's annual "Innovation Challenge," summer interns teamed up to create healthy and budget-friendly recipes incorporating our award-winning Bowl & Basket and Wholesome Pantry products. The intern teams considered historical trends, nutritional data, cost and of course, taste, in choosing ingredients for their recipes! The teams then pitched their culinary creations to a panel of Wakefern team members. The ShopRite of Greater Morristown is excited to cut the ribbon on a new TerraCycle recycling kiosk and welcome customers to drop off their flexible-film plastic packaging for recycling. The easy-to-use recycling kiosk accepts flexible-film plastic waste such as empty chip and snack bags, pet food and treat packaging and even empty potting soil packages -- helping keep more waste out of landfills. Beating the Heat ☀️ 💦 Several ShopRite stores hosted hydration stations recently with thirst-quenching samples that included: 🍊 Oranges 🍎 100% juice 😅 Electrolyte-rich beverages ShopRite of Lincoln Park customers had the chance to speak with store dietitian Danielle Buonforte, RD who shared easy, fun and healthy ways to stay hydrated and energized this summer. Rutgers Newark Scarlet Raider Robert DelVecchio spent his summer alongside Wakefern's busy Produce Procurement team, where he learned what it takes to source top quality produce to sell in stores. Robert chose to apply to Wakefern after a Wakefern intern alumnus told him about the unique learning opportunities that are part of the program. Happy National Intern Day! It has been a busy summer for our interns! They joined Wakefern's annual volunteer effort to make sandwiches for the Special Olympics NJ Summer Games in June, participated in networking events across the cooperative, and attended workshops where they learned tips and tricks to help their LinkedIn pages and resumes stand out...all while gaining on-the-job experience in their respective divisions.
