The recipient of the Maclovio Barraza award is a leader who has served as a local source of strength and support to the Hispanic community. This year, we are happy to honor Astrid Silva for demonstrating incredible courage and commitment in her advocacy for Dreamers. She’s taken her leadership further by establishing Dream Big Nevada, an organization that provides resources, education, and guidance to undocumented individuals and their families while pursuing policy change to keep families. 👏 On behalf of our community, we recognize her leadership, advocacy, and contributions! 👏

Through our HOME Initiative, we brought together Affiliates and partners for a full-day convening to reflect on the program’s first year. 🙌 Breakout sessions allowed us to dive deep into our successes and explore new opportunities to further empower homebuyers. Our keynote speaker, David Berenbaum from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, provided valuable insights regarding the housing sector. The event concluded with a highly engaging session led by Laura Arce, our Senior Vice President of Economic Initiatives, and her team, who shared their expertise and vision for the future. 🏠 Together, we're setting the stage for another impactful year! #UnidosUS #UnidosUSHOME

Bridging the gap between education and workforce is vital for our community to unlock new pathways to opportunity. That’s why we joined TNTP to convene education and workforce leaders for a roundtable discussion and to commit to partnerships that achieve progress for our youth. We thank all the people who joined us in this much needed conversation to kick-start the future of the upcoming generation! #UnidosUS

Did you know 46% of Latino families with children under age three have not received any child care since birth? This is why improving access to high-quality, culturally and linguistically responsive early childhood education is one of our priorities. We’re proud to have hosted the Administration for Children and Families (ACF)'s Chief of Staff Larry Sandigo at our #UnidosUS24 Annual Conference for a discussion on our shared priorities for our children to have the education and future they deserve. #UnidosUS

Big news for Nevada's Latino families! 🏠🎉 The White House has answered our call to action on affordable housing in Las Vegas and beyond. Their new initiatives include: ➡️ Repurposing public land to build up to 15,000 new affordable housing units in Nevada. ➡️ Rehabilitating distressed housing in Las Vegas. ➡️ Limiting rent increases to keep housing costs manageable. These steps directly address the concerns we heard from our community during our recent visit to Las Vegas. From first-time buyers to long-time residents, these actions will help make the dream of affordable housing a reality for more Latino families. Together, we're turning Nevada's Latino community into a true housing powerhouse! 💪🏼🏘️ #UnidosUS
Did you know Latino families in Nevada struggle with extremely high housing costs? That’s why we visited Las Vegas to discuss how we can make housing more affordable for the Latino community that calls the state home. From helping first-time Latino buyers with down payments to offering culturally relevant housing advice, we heard from Robert Gordon, with The White House Domestic Policy Council, and public and private sector partners on ways to make housing accessible for Latino families. We know Latinos can be a housing powerhouse in Las Vegas, and we’re committed to working through community partnerships and public policies to make it happen. We thank all the organizations and partners who were a part of this event: Community Services of Nevada Commissioner Segerblom’s Office Councilmember Isaac Barron Councilmember Olivia Diaz Assemblywoman Selena Torres Community Liaison for Clark County Commission Nevada Affordable Housing Assistance Corporation University of Nevada-Las Vegas Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. Five years ago, we suffered the single largest attack on Latinos in our country's history. Today, we continue to mourn the lives lost in El Paso, Texas. Hate speech isn't just words - it has real, devastating consequences. The anniversary of El Paso reminds us of this. Words have power—they can heal or harm. We decide to use our voice to create a world where no one lives in fear. #UnidosUS

We’re starting August with a throwback to the NAHJ (National Association of Hispanic Journalists) event on empowering Hispanic voters in the face of AI misinformation. 🙌 Our Senior Policy Advisor on Civil Rights Juan Espinoza explained how protecting our right to vote is important to our community and crucial to a healthy democracy. 🗳️ #UnidosUS #NAHJ2024
