Forest Hill Avenue in South Richmond is a bustling road with shops, restaurants, homes and what feels like constant construction. But one block over, off Cherokee Road, sits a gravel road that was once the epicenter of a lost community. Florine Drumgold remembers Granite, a once thriving neighborhood wedged between what is now Bon Air and the James River. "I lived in Granite," Drumgold said. "Born and raised in Granite. 1935." Drumgold keeps pictures of the house where she once lived among pictures of her parents and grandparents, who lived there before her. There is a burgeoning cricket community in Central Virginia where dozens of teams and leagues share their passion for the sport that dates back to mid 16th century England. Cricket's longtime popularity worldwide, and relatively new popularity around Richmond, may be due to its simplicity. "You just need three stumps which are wooden sticks you can find anywhere, a bat and ball which is very cheap and you can start playing," Dr. Hitesh Vaishnav said. "Cricket is getting popular. Even at my work there are many Americans taking interest in cricket. It's growing and it's good to see that mainstream people are taking interest." Lane Casadonte reports --> https://lnkd.in/eezyeUpy

Congratulations Elizabeth Holmes!
Hi LinkedIn! I'm now an Emmy award winning journalist! My station WTVR-TV took home 27 Emmy awards this weekend (more than any station in Virginia, Maryland, and D.C.)! I was among several reporters, photographers, producers, and editors to be honored for our coverage of a mass shooting that happened in the heart of Richmond on June 6, 2023. I will never forget that day. Coming onto the scene, not knowing if an assailant was on the loose, was terrifying. Hearing the stories of those who witnessed it was heartbreaking. Getting to the bottom of what happened was hard, but necessary. More importantly, I'm thankful to have been able to do it alongside a supportive team of coworkers who care about their community.

Congratulations Jade Ruggieri!
I'm excited to share that I received an Emmy within my first year WTVR-TV due to my involvement in the Richmond deadly graduation day shooting. On a day that is supposed to be celebratory, families instead were enveloped in tragedy as they clung to their loved ones. Through the teamwork of multiple reporters, photographers, producers, and editors, we provided accurate news as the day unfolded for the community. While it was a stressful environment to navigate as one of my first days as a photojournalist, including my camera getting (illegally) taken away by the police, it was a moment that showed me the importance of my job. It's amazing to be part of such a talented station that is passionate about journalism, and I look forward to continue sharing the stories of the community.
