We’re deep into summer and the city’s beaches and pools are open but New York City is still grappling with a lifeguard shortage. Sharon Greenberger recently sat down with Good Day Talk Street’s Antwan Lewis to discuss the city’s current lifeguard shortage and what the YMCA of Greater New York is doing to combat the shortage and increase access to water safety and swim lessons in underserved communities. It was a beautiful day for golf this past Monday at the third annual YMCA of Greater New York Golf & Gala fundraiser! Shout out to Curb Your Enthusiasm star, J.B. Smoove for handling hosting duties at the event, which took place at the Westchester Country Club. And thank you to all who attended and helped us raise $780,000 – funds that will open doors for thousands of New Yorkers through the Y’s youth and teen programs. Congratulations to our honorees, Molly Finnerty of Zenith and Rich Steimel of Lendlease, and to our Golf & Gala scholarship winner, Kadidia Bocoum. We’d also like to acknowledge Kris Magel and Larry Bremer and thank them for their leadership of our Golf & Gala Committee. What an amazing day for some lucky Y campers taking the field at MetLife Stadium the day after Leo Messi played on it. Just hours after Tuesday’s CONMEBOL Copa America 2024™ semifinal between Argentina and Canada, Y campers took the field at MetLife Stadium as a part of an event hosted by FIFA World Cup 26 New York New Jersey™ Host Committee. Hundreds of youth from across the region participated in yesterday’s event which included dynamic soccer clinics led by the U.S. Soccer Foundation. Thank you to our wonderful partners FIFA World Cup 2026™ New York New Jersey Host Committee and U.S. Soccer Foundation for providing our kids with a magical experience they will never forget. #ymcanyc #ymca #ussoccerfoundation #youthsoccer

Looking back at a spectacular night at the museum. 💫 On June 13, hundreds of New Yorkers gathered at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for the YMCA of Greater New York Heroes of New York Gala. The evening featured hilarious jokes from emcee Punkie Johnson, an unforgettable performance from Broadway legend Billy Porter, and an after-party with Grandmaster Flash. This year's event raised more than $1.4 million and honored John Starks, New York Life, Deloitte, and Jack & Valerie Rowe for their ongoing support of the YMCA’s efforts to open doors to education and career development resources for young people across NYC. Thank you to all who attended and supported the Y. We can’t wait to see you again soon.

Y teens are officially college bound! 🎓📚 There were lots of smiles, tears of joy, and high-fives the other night as Y teens celebrated the end of the school year, announced their college plans, and received financial scholarships at YMCA of Greater New York's annual College Decision Day hosted by our partners at the Capital Group. Dozens of students were in attendance at last night’s event, many of whom will be the first in their families to attend college. We are so proud of these Y teens and look forward to seeing them again as official Y teen alumni. 😊

What an amazing night at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as New Yorkers came together to celebrate the heroes of today while raising funds to support the heroes of tomorrow at the YMCA of Greater New York Heroes of New York Gala. The event raised more than $1.4 million to support the Y’s programs and community services and featured performances from Broadway icon Billy Porter and Hip-Hop legend Grandmaster Flash and Saturday Night Live’s Punkie Johnson was the emcee for the evening. This year’s honorees were New York Life Insurance Company, Deloitte, and John Starks, celebrated for their ongoing support of the YMCA’s efforts to open doors to education and career development resources for young people across NYC. The Y also paid special tribute to Jack and Valerie Rowe on the 10th anniversary of the Rowe Scholars Program and awarded two YMCA teens with the von der Heyden Scholarships; a scholarship presented annually to two high school students who have exhibited strong leadership qualities and a determination to better their communities. Thank you all for joining us and supporting the Y.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved West Side Y member, Sidney Inniss. Thank you, Sid, for everything you did for the Y and especially for showing us how to live our best lives.
One of the many wonderful things about being part of the YMCA of Greater New York is meeting people who inspire you. Sidney Inniss was an inspiration to me and countless others. He was a West Side Y member for 65 years and came in daily for fitness, strength training and community. He shared his stories, his wisdom and his warmth and always lifted spirits. Sid referred to the Y as “the best place in the world.” He passed away at age 100 and will be missed. You can learn more about Sid and how he made the Y his “church” through this profile: https://lnkd.in/ebuUXxUT
