As an Executive Recruiter in Retail - I get to speak to some of the worlds most talented Creatives (one of the BEST parts of my job). ❤️ Here are 3 trends I have noticed from speaking to Product Executives and what they are seeking as they look for their next opportunity: + A connection to the product the are working on is essential; do they use it, wear it, feel passionately about it. Further to that these Executives want to feel aligned to the greater purpose, mission and values of the brand, this has become a non-negotiable. ✨ + Living in the same city as HQ is not imperative. While it is important to see, touch and feel product, it is also important to have autonomy over their schedule and the flexibility to navigate their very full lives. A hybrid work environment is the perfect balance for a Product Executive. They are well versed in living remotely and flying in regularly for key product/leadership meetings. 🌍 + Budget and ability to travel. Trade shows, factory visits and inspiration trips are essential to the success of a creative. In the last few months I talked with many leaders in the fashion industry. I noticed that most hold onto these ideas: 🚫𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸-𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 The high-pressure environment of the fashion industry often leads to the belief that achieving work-life balance is impossible. Leaders normalize feeling burnt out and being less productive. And yet I know that with the right tools and strategies, leaders can manage their time effectively and set boundaries to maintain a healthy balance. 🚫 𝗔𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 Many leaders feel that seeking support is a sign of weakness. Congrats to LuisaViaRoma on expanding internationally in New York's NoLita neighborhood; smart location. Regardless of market saturation, especially downtown, there still seems to be a desire for more multi-brand stores with vision and distinct perspectives. Shoppers never seem to tire of unique curated experiences and meaningful connections. E-commerce has revolutionized retail, but if LuisaViaRoma can replicate their US online success, "25 percent of its online sales are in the US, with New York as its biggest market," and transform that success into a physical store, their expansion in the US could be a major triumph. However, I also agree with Ms. Gilhart, that it will not be easy, New York shoppers are savvy; success will depend more on just the luxury names and a grand space. Stylists and sales associates, events, exclusives, and a brand matrix full of hard-to-find emerging designers will be key to driving traffic. One aspect the article overlooks is that LuisaViaRoma most likely also intends to use the flagship store as a global destination, aiming to engage shoppers, both New York locals and tourists from around the world, hoping they will capture that client and continue to purchase on their website upon returning home, even if they aren't from NYC. While their bulk of business seems to be online, I say cheers to more brick-and-mortar concept stores that blend luxury Maisons, emerging designers, exploration, human interaction and most importantly build a community of diverse individuals who love fashion. WELCOME TO NEW YORK!!!

The game is on. Web sites for giant corporations and your local autobody shop appear at the same size on all of your screens. In the brick and mortar world the difference can be tremendous. That difference is what Wayfair is shouting. I spent quite a while on the site and was immersed in the brand’s philosophy and mission.
