Do you still need a crisis playbook? A very important question posed by my colleague Alex Lyall. The other question is: how is your company assessing communication risk and are your executives and Board aligned on what is material and what is reputationally important? Too often there is a disconnect between the board and management and that lack of alignment can hit hard in today's permacrisis environment, significantly impacting company reputation, employee productivity and the bottomline.

Recently, I spearheaded a successful PR campaign in Peachtree City to inform residents about a major road project. Our efforts resulted in building trust and transparency through earned media. Here's what we achieved: Community Engagement: Partnered with GDOT for a well-attended town hall meeting (nearly 250 RSVPs!) and livestreamed the event for broader reach. Proactive Communication: Encouraged public participation by soliciting questions in advance (over 3 dozen submitted!). Strategic Media Outreach: Secured impactful TV coverage (3 days on WSB, Fox 5, & Atlanta News First). I first encountered the term "earned media" as a 20-year-old volunteering on a political campaign. As many have said before, earned media is exactly that – you have to earn it. It involves pitching a story to journalists and demonstrating its newsworthiness. You then assist them in acquiring the information they require to write their piece on deadline. I'm a fan of earned media because it encourages a mutually beneficial relationship between organizations seeking to share their message and journalists seeking stories. https://lnkd.in/ez7aSTq8

Today is #juneteenth. Are you celebrating and recognizing with a post on social media? Content Marketing Institute's article on "How to Raise Your Brand’s Voice in Issues That Matter" sums it up well. https://lnkd.in/eGM_RiZb I first saw a #DEI Roadmap in 2010, long before 2020, when #diversityequityandinclusion became a focal point of corporate America. One thing is clear: words don’t matter if you don’t have the beliefs to support them. I’ve been fortunate to partner with clients who drive action and results. What principles do they follow? 1. Support causes that align with your business. 2. Raise awareness that demonstrates your values. 3. Be passionately committed to the cause. 4. Listen to the team’s interests and actively drive change. When the vision is clear, content marketing is a great way to share stories of genuine representation and initiatives that elevate and welcome different identities and perspectives. All too often, companies turn to the DEI calendar, which is filled with potential dates to recognize. It's a great start, but championing true DEI puts values into action and tells that story year-round.
