“Brittany and I worked in the same department at BuzzFeed, and any time we got to work on a project together I was grateful. Her vast knowledge and deep understanding of SEO and digital trends made her an asset to any team she worked with, and her imprint on BuzzFeed's content will be felt for years to come. She's whip smart and and has a knack for search strategy and content ideation, and any team going forward would be lucky to have her.”

PSA for all freelancers looking to land high-paying clients: Most of the people you pitch won’t reply. Or they’ll say no. Or they’ll take weeks to get back to you. Pitching is not a one-day game. Your chances of landing regular, high-paying work increase significantly the more you put out there. Learn from every no. Improve your marketing materials, especially your LOI. Work on understanding (and improving) your win rate. (On average, most writers will see a 5-10% win rate from cold LOIs.) You only need 4-7 clients on contract to make an excellent living as a freelance writer. Calculate how many LOIs you need to send in order to land them. Then get them out as quickly as you can.

I’m looking to outsource a small amount of work to a fellow content writer. If you’re interested, send me a DM with the words ‘to write for you, is right for me.’ Please include: - Your resume and portfolio - What you’ve been working on recently - Your country of residence - A list of your five favorite movies - A photo of your passport - Your mother’s maiden name - Your favorite inspirational quote - Your opinions on AI - Kisses at the end of your sentences (they make me feel all warm and gooey) - A voice note where you pretend to be one of my family members, and tell me how proud you are of me - Three naked photos. Half-naked will not be accepted - 25 things you wish you knew before you started posting on LinkedIn - Your favorite Pokemon - A photo of your credit card (front and back) - Your pin number - Your pin number again, just to make sure you got it right - A video of a dog that was once abused and neglected, but now is all happy and energetic, and living its best life in some other country somewhere with a new foster family. I love those videos - A cover letter - Any other information you feel is relevant I’ll be paying $0.012 per word Thanks! Oh, and please share this with your network, and tag any writers you know - it’s really important I find the right person. P.S., you must be a native English speaker. ----- 📣 Oh, and in real actual serious news, I currently have space for one more client. If you want fitness or travel content that isn't mind-bendingly boring, send me a message 📣

Unpaid Writing Tests? Seriously? A certain someone recently had a meltdown over low-quality writing samples. It turns out they asked unpaid writers for a test. Shocker! Good writers know their worth. They won't work for free. Want quality content? Pay for it. Simple as that. Stop expecting miracles on a shoestring budget. Respect the craft. Respect the writer.

Question for the writers out there...I can research and write quickly when given a topic for a client, but when it comes to my personal projects, I struggle. How do you stay inspired and find engaging subjects you’re knowledgeable about? Balancing writing what others want with topics I'm passionate about is tough. Advice appreciated! ☺️ #Copywriting #DigitalMarketing #WritingAdvice #FreelanceWriter #WritingTips

I’m going to try not to get a big head. But Amazon isn’t helping. After only a week and a half of pre-sales, I already have Amazon category rankings! In case you didn’t know, Modern Mer: Become the Mermaid of Your Dreams is available as an eBook pre-release: https://lnkd.in/gWa8EtEB So far, I’ve reached # 5 in swimming (Kindle), # 49 in swimming (books), and # 51 in performing arts (Kindle). AND I’m already listed as a # 1 new release in performing arts! It sounds like great success so far, but let me tell you a trade secret… Guess how many pre-sale copies of my eBook I had to sell to reach those ratings? Four. That’s right, just four. I chose my categories—swimming, performing arts, and aquatic exercise—very purposefully because they fit the book’s content best. But they have a secondary advantage of not being super popular categories such as romance or YA novels. I have less competition, so reaching bestseller status is easier. Regardless, seeing these rankings gives me hope that my book will succeed (based on what “success” means to me). I’ll try not to get a big head. But I see a bright future, and that makes me smile. === What about your future makes you smile? === I’m Jeanette 👋 a copyeditor and self-editing instructor who is using May to post a plethora of mermaid content. In my spare time, I’m a content writer, fiction writer, and mermaid Instagrammer. This hits close to home. The March Core Update & September helpful content updates have undeniably impacted publishers. Transparency is Key: Agreed, Google. Clearer communication on how Search is evolving & why specific sites were affected would be invaluable. SEO Pros Need Guidance Too: Many SEOs lack clear explanations to offer clients beyond "content isn't helpful." More insights into what constitutes "helpful content" would empower us to guide publishers effectively. Beyond the Update: The future of search is AI-driven. While exciting, it creates challenges for publishers. Google, can we explore ways to help impacted businesses transition or adapt their strategies? AI & Upskilling: I appreciate the AI Essentials course, but is there more Google can offer to directly assist publishers struggling now? Looking Forward: Marie's passion for AI is inspiring. Let's work together to ensure a smooth transition for publishers in this new era of search. #SEO #GoogleUpdates #AI #FutureofSearch P.S. I'd be happy to connect and share insights from my website and consultations with impacted publishers.

Etsy runs pro-human ad campaign, “Keep Commerce Human.” ICYMI: As AI-generated junk floods Etsy, from coloring books and stickers to mugs and T-shirts “pumped out by AI-assisted hustlers” (per The Atlantic), Etsy recently launched an ad campaign (created by the Orchard agency) that’s openly skeptical of what automation can accomplish. The ad isn’t anti-tech, says Orchard chief creative officer David Kolbusz in an interview with Retail Dive. “It’s pro-human. It’s a reminder that the things that arrive on your doorstep can come from someplace more meaningful than a fulfillment center.” Said differently (per Fast Company), “Etsy’s new brand campaign aims to differentiate its shopping from the mass production of Amazon and Shein,” adding, “Much like Dove’s pledge from April to never use AI to create or distort ‘s women's images, Etsy is using its commitment to human-made goods as a defining differentiator in a crowded e-commerce space.” Will it work? Considering widespread and divisive feelings toward AI, celebrating humans for being humans certainly feels like a pretty solid direction. #AI #advertising #brandmarketing

Hey, freelance writers! I’m offering another “pay what you can” opportunity! 🙌 This time around, it’s for my e-book Find Your Floor. What’s that, you ask? It’s a quick 3-step breakdown of how to determine the *minimum* amount you should be charging. How does this promotion work? ✅ Pay whatever you can contribute. (Seriously.) ✅ I email you the 12-page PDF. That’s it! This offer is good for one week. Doors close on this one May 22 at 11:59 p.m. CET. ➡️ Grab your copy here: https://lnkd.in/ehwTitsJ #Freelance #FreelanceWriter #FreelanceWriting PS: The e-book retails for $9.99, but feel free to send *any* amount that works for you. Charging per word must be the silliest "standard practice" in the writing industry. Because writers aren't just paid to put down an "a, an, or the" on a Google Doc, with a bunch of other words. We're paid for 🌟 thinking about how to solve a problem with those words 🌟 coming up with a narrative that makes the reader interested in those words 🌟 researching our a$$es off to ensure the words we use are accurate, logical, understandable (and not plagiarized) 🌟 using the right words in the right places to achieve the right goals And a per-word rate can't match up to the heart and soul that we put into making each piece the best piece we've ever written. This is why I always try to charge per project. But where the clients don't understand it, I (grudgingly) convert my project/hourly rate to a per-word number. We don't pay a teacher by the number of words spoken in a lecture, nor a doctor by the number of patients they diagnose. Writing seems to be one of the few white-collar professions where this nonsensical payment framework still continues to rule. I pray for a day when it no longer will. P.S. How do you feel about this? #mishkawrites #writing #writer #freelancewriter #contentwriting #contentwriter

"Sometimes I'm wrong, and I need someone to balance me out. What do you think about this?" I said to a manager today as we mapped out a plan for rolling out a program to the department. I was trying not to make blunders out of impatience and needed her opinions. Admitting at the start of a conversation that there are things I might not know reduces pressure on my partners and allows them to counter my ideas freely. I see this a sign of strength and humility when people do this for me. So today's advice: Check in with a teammate or two for feedback. Admit early on when you aren't sure about things. It's hard to be challenged, but wouldn't you rather hear certain things now and make necessary changes than have your set-in-stone plan backfire and have chaos to clean up? #teamwork #goodconversations

As a content writer with ADHD, I've transformed my WFH routine into a powerhouse of productivity. Here's how I turn challenges into strengths: • When overwhelm hits, I don't fight it—I embrace it. Short breaks recharge my creativity. • My dedicated workspace? It's my fortress against distractions. • And those clear writing goals? They're my secret weapon. These strategies don't hinder my professionalism–they amplify it. They showcase adaptability, focus, and discipline—the very qualities that make remote work not just manageable, but exceptional. And guess what? The best clients and colleagues appreciate these traits too. None of these strategies make me less productive or professional. Instead, they show self-awareness, the ability to adapt, focus, and a sense of discipline. Qualities that enable you to excel in remote work. (The best clients and colleagues tend to appreciate these too.) tl-dr: ↳ short, ad hoc breaks rule ↳ dedicated workspace ftw ↳ clear writing goals rock > What's your favorite home workspace hack? Fellow writing professionals, I have a few questions for you: Are you affiliated with an agency? If so, how has your experience been? Do you find more job opportunities compared to freelancing independently? Would you recommend joining an agency? Are there any specific agencies you endorse? If you're not part of an agency, could you share your reasons for that choice? Thanks! #writing #writers #contentwriting

Dear Creatives, Always tell people what you do. Let your audience know whether you are in the writing niche or personal development niche. Don't assume they know who you are and what you do. Tell them, tell them over and over again. Let it sink into their hearts that this is what you represent. Don't assume! I hope you get the message? Happy Social Saturday. PS: I can help you create the right social media content for your brand/business? Send a message today. #ContentWriter #Ghostwriter #LinkedInwriting
