Just got done with reading @HFSResearch's paper on @Capgemini's strategic alliance with @Kuehne+Nagel, where they elaborated on logistics optimization as a part of their larger #SupplyChainOrchestration solution. It was insightful to learn how they prioritize shipments in alignment with stock availability, convert sales and supply forecasts into transportation volumes, anticipate transport volumes from sales and more. It’s good to see some in the #supplychain community realize that we are in an age of perpetual disruption. For example, the latest SupplyChainBrain includes an excellent overview on “Surviving in an Age of Permanent Disruption: We’re All in This Together.” That certainly is an advance over the last several years, where headline after headline has proclaimed that we have entered a “new normal.” As I have argued for years, disruption is the new normal. In fact, that was one theme from my last book Insightful Leadership: Surfing the Waves to Organizational Excellence. So, in many ways, I’m happy to see an article like this talking about pandemics, wars, trade disputes and natural disasters – all sources of supply chain disruption. While the initiative has the potential to significantly improve the eradication of unethical labour practices and set Shein apart in the market, its success will heavily depend on the effective implementation of robust monitoring and compliance systems. If Shein can ensure transparency and ethical practices across their supply chain, they could indeed create a new, ethical blueprint for the fashion industry. However, the cost of such initiatives will likely be higher initially but could lead to long-term savings and a stronger market position through enhanced brand loyalty and reduced waste. https://lnkd.in/eMNeUU7r

💡 Supply chain’s long-standing image problem has at times masked the true importance of the function. Those who oversimplified the function as merely a means to transport products and parts from point A to point B often overlooked its strategic significance. As organizations today have become more complex and global, supply chain management has been charged with keeping pace. From R&D and product innovation to M&A and customer development, supply chain can touch nearly every aspect of the business. Leading companies recognize the absolute necessity of supply chain innovations because of the current turbulent times. However, approaches do vary considerably, as keynote presentations from companies including the LEGO Group, PepsiCo, METRO Ukraine, Versuni and The HEINEKEN Company at the inNOWvate Supply Chain Event in Amsterdam on 22 May showed. ‘Nothing fantastic happens if you don’t take uncomfortable risks,’ futurologist Magnus Lindkvist (pictured) told the audience at the cinema. Since the Russian invasion, hospitality wholesaler Metro Cash & Carry in Ukraine has been facing a 20% staff shortage in its 26 branches, which are normally staffed by more than 3,000 people. Due to the war, many employees have fled, and quite a few colleagues are fighting at the front. In a video message, Olena Vdovychenko, CEO of Metro, talked about introducing cashless shops as a significant innovation: customers now scan their own groceries and pay digitally without the help of cashiers. Futurologist Magnus Lindkvist reported that the economy has grown exponentially over the centuries. But at the same time, the turbulence index by political scientists Katherine Barbieri and Omar Keshk showed that the world has never been more unsettled than now. Lindkvist made an ardent plea for creating rather than competing. ‘Those who compete end up in a competition. Women grow and make so much of the world’s food and goods but still face many challenges that inhibit their potential -- harassment and violence, lack of access to education and healthcare, hunger and malnutrition.
