We know that CO2 emissions are a leading contributor to climate change, and the world will need a portfolio of solutions to address this Grand Challenge.

The $20M NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE will challenge the world to reimagine what we can do with CO2 emissions by incentivizing and accelerating the development of technologies that convert CO2 into valuable products. These technologies have the potential to transform how the world approaches CO2 mitigation, and reduce the cost of managing CO2.

The XPRIZE Visioneers 2016 Summit, presented by the Roddenberry Foundation in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek, was held in late September in southern California.

The Visioneers Summit is a gathering of the XPRIZE ecosystem. It is not just an event but a process that is part of the XPRIZE strategic approach to evolve and advance its prize designs.

This year, the process featured nine hand-selected teams of Visioneers who spent nearly six months designing the next generation of XPRIZEs, aspiring to create disruptive impact across a portfolio of the world's grandest challenges in the following domains: cancer, ALS, empathy, water, housing, nutrition, and avatars.

At the Summit, a group of 250 mentors composed of prominent corporate and political leaders, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, artists, technologists and scientists evaluated and critiqued each of the nine XPRIZE proposals. Collectively, this community ultimately determined which concepts were certified as “ready for launch.”
