This is a wake-up call to all retailers and brands CEO/CDOs/CMOs, you are going in the WRONG direction. Stop competing with commodity commerce sites like Amazon and Walmart and start innovating. You all “say” the right things at trade shows: “better customer experiences” “personalization” “real connections and brand engagement” Yet your actions are the OPPOSITE You don’t encourage your teams to take any risks or come up with creative ideas. You have teams of paper pushers. Everyone is looking to press a button or implement the newest Acme Company technology (yes, a Roadrunner cartoon reference). You are looking for the latest AI bot to do the trick Newsflash, consumers hate bots…no matter how smart they are You are cutting programs left and right, reducing customer service hours, getting rid of free returns You are being lazy You're playing defense not offense You need to do some real work, some elbow grease type stuff Case in point: When Domino's pledged to get you your pizza in under 30mins – that took effort and it worked. It was all about the customer experience. When Enterprise said “we’ll pick you up” – that wasn’t a push the button effort, it was a program and executed well. When my friends at Sweetwater promise you access to a real musician expert 1:1 to help buy the right products, that was a real effort (and it worked, driving their DTC to $1.7B) The biggest risk is the risk you don’t take. NEED Help? Here’s an example of an idea to inspire creative thinking – it may be a terrible idea but I want to get the point across on how you NEED to be dissecting the customer experience and coming up with creative solutions I call it Pizza Party - that will both drive conversion and reduce returns for apparel brands Hire fit models of varying sizes and body types near you warehouse For every new drop, have them try on the clothes and record their fit feedback Share that feedback on every PDP page Have fun with it, make your fit models ambassadors and show their personalities. 6 fit models $500/a day x 3 days of work = $7,500 1 Producer at $500/day x 3 days - $1,500 8 times a year = $72,000 Web manager to project manage this whole thing - $100,000 For $172K a year An apparel brand doing $50M GMV a year with 30% returns – that’s $15M in lost revenue + probably another $1M in return logistics A 2% drop in returns would recover approx. $1M in revenues Add another 2% conversion lift and that’s another $1M in revenues Net net - $2M gained for $172K spent Sounds like a pretty freaking good ROI to me any my CVR and reduction in returns #s are conservative  Plus you’ll get some amazing content, brand ambassador, etc etc That’s old school innovation stuff You get my point – start innovating.

One of the most interesting things to come out of of crypto - where the exchange of rewards is so fluid, and fraud is so rampant - is the creation of systems to define which users are real / not bots, and actually generating value. Airlines, hotels, and coffee shops have been in the loyalty business forever... but not with this kind of global reach or velocity. Everyone is already an influencer - but only some are big enough to get marketing contracts. Crypto is showing that anyone can get paid to help build or grow a product. https://lnkd.in/g_wci5tU

If you've been to a restaurant industry conference recently, you know that Qu POS and Thanx are two of the hottest brands in the industry. We're honored. Qu is disrupting legacy POS and Thanx is disrupting legacy loyalty. "Let's Fix Loyalty" is an excellent title for this awesome interview I did with Jenifer Kern from Qu POS about what we at Thanx have been calling Loyalty 3.0 for a couple years. Simply put, one-size-fits-all rote discounts (buy-x-get-y) aren't driving outcomes for most restaurants — and effective discount rates in excess of 10% aren't helping the bottom line. Meanwhile, these same legacy loyalty programs capture far too few guests (too much friction to participate) to actually move the needle on a brand's top-line — we regularly transition established programs with our legacy competitors suffering from <10% capture rates. That's not going to cut it. And yet, loyalty programs have gone from "nice to have" to "must have" post-COVID. We're here to help... enjoy.

It's uncommon to see innovation in a product that has been chugging along at the same level for decades. But Mark Adams, Keeri Tramm, Holden Page, and Bo Frize are building something special with our RealTrends Verified business. For those that don't know about RealTrends Verified, it's the one real estate rankings program that uses double-verified data (from the agent and their brokerage). Steve Murray and Tracey Velt had been operating the rankings for decades before we acquired the business. Ever since we acquired the business, we've noticed that our ranking pages have pretty impressive SEO juice. Try searching for "best real estate agents" or "best real estate agents in Texas", and you'll see a RealTrends page pretty high your results. This year, we're going to start leveraging this SEO juice with an expansion of RealTrends Verified into city pages. This week DevHub executive team gets together to close out the 2nd quarter and align on 3rd goals, priorities. Since late 2022 when the decision was made to work with #franchise brands directly it’s been freeing, hard - all the feels. We went from a company that ‘took orders,’ from partners to a company that truly provides real results, knowledge from the 17+ years, hundreds of brands and millions of websites migrated. With the customer trading down (a trend we’re seeing as well) best-in-class product pages become even more important for higher price point items. Why? If you have a high-end product, it has to ✨shine✨. Every feature highlighted, inspirational copy, great aspirational imagery, no question left unanswered. Not just to build customer confidence in the cost, but to justify it. Having great product page detail also increases the perceived value of a product—no matter what the price point, but especially for luxury products. #ecommerce #consumerspending #retailtrends

Have QR codes finally cracked the US market, or are they just a passing trend? I was scrolling through the web this morning when this article from RetailWire about QR codes caught my attention. Typically, those black-and-white squares aren’t exactly a thrill-a-minute, right? But this one had a headline titled “Is It Time for QR Codes To Become Mainstream in the US?” Curiosity got the better of me, so I clicked it open. Turns out the article makes a lot of good points. QR codes are making a comeback, especially in other countries. With the rise of smartphones and a growing appetite for contactless interactions, these smart tools are having a moment. WeChat Pay in China, PayPay in Japan, and Navar Pay in South Korea show us how QR codes—with their usability and convenience—can fast-track payment solutions. A remarkable 75 percent of retail transactions in India are conducted via QR code payment. Imagine the impact these codes could have globally. In fact, QR codes are proving their value for Consumer Packaged Goods (CGP) brands seeking to build a deeper connection with their audience. Nestlé, for instance, uses QR codes on its food packaging to give consumers detailed nutritional information about the product's origin. The same goes with The Coca-Cola Company, which incorporated dynamic QR codes to connect consumers with exclusive content and mobile communities under its brand, ‘SmileWorld.’ In the summer of 2019, PepsiCo’s annual campaign included QR codes on bottles that launched Augmented Reality (AR) filters and stickers for consumers to delight in. Similarly, Miller Lite and Jameson Irish Whiskey integrated QR codes at campaign bars and limited-edition bottles to engage customers in an interactive experience. Even L'Oréal, a beauty industry powerhouse, embedded QR codes into its product line. As a result, the company has witnessed an exceptional seven-percent conversion rate and an outstanding 80-percent boost in app downloads. These tales of success exemplify the ability of QR codes to do more than just conduits for information but as integral drivers of consumer engagement and interaction. And not only that, these QR codes have also been used across diverse touchpoints, like how Dove prompted consumers to explore its offering and unlock exciting content by strategically placing QR codes near bus stops and outdoor venues. With all these big companies already using them and how technology keeps moving, QR codes are surely on track to become a mainstream player in the US. It makes sense since they’re easy to use, intuitive, and cost-effective, and with everyone having a smartphone these days, scanning them is a breeze.   What do you think? Following the likes of Robinhood & Salesforce, brands are betting the farm on owned media, but 90% of b2c brands are overestimating their upside. 2 things that differentiate those marquee efforts from most companies: Mass Appeal - Sherwood (Robinhood) and Salesforce+ are going after 2 of the largest audiences, respectively, in consumer investing and sales/marketing. But let's say you operate an insurance marketplace, a telehealth company, or... a mattress company... What are the real odds consumers subscribe to your newsletter? Investment - Sherwood is not messing around. They've hired a cadre of top talent, and then went and bought Chartr to sprinkle on top. You need to be creating a TON of great content to have a chance at creating a real consumer media brand, and too many owned strategies are being built on the back of 2-3 person teams. The truth is... b2c brands need to find audiences offsite, by leveraging their content/data into earned. Tell interesting stories, and create relationships that allow you to syndicate those stories at large.
