How can you avoid common mistakes when following up with an interviewer?
As someone who has interviewed and hired (and not hired) hundreds of people over the years for private and public organizations, and small and large companies, I can tell you that I always appreciated a timely thank you note--one written soon after the interview. The note could be an email or a snail mail (I liked those best because they take effort). Notes that had follow-up questions or additional information really stood out to me because those notes took thought and, when you think about it, also showed some strategy. A thank you note or email also told me that the person I interviewed was courteous, thoughtful, and knew how to both follow up and close a deal. So, the next time you're interviewed, take a moment to give some thanks.
