Here's how you can maximize networking as a healthcare manager at education events and conferences.
After events I create reels or videos and tag the experts in the reels. It’s a “thank you” for engaging with me and a great way for them to remember you and to introduce you to their network of people who were not at the event.

Only 14% of individuals with schizophrenia achieve stable recovery after 25 years, compared to 28% for other psychotic disorders. This stark difference highlights the ongoing need for better, long-term care strategies. The latest June podcast episode of The American Journal of Psychiatry features Sara Tramazzo to discuss the long-term outlook for patients with schizophrenia spectrum over the course of 25 years. In it, they discuss schizophrenia’s negative symptoms such as: difficulty in social interactions, maintaining employment, and daily functioning. All of these pose a significant challenge to achieving remission and recovery. How do you tailor your long-term care plans for schizophrenia patients? What strategies have you found effective in managing symptoms and improving quality of life over decades? Opioid Response Network
Over the past decade, hospitals and health systems have increasingly adopted interventions to address the needs of patients with substance use disorders. To help guide more efficient care and improved outcomes, ORN collaborator Arthur Robin Williams MD, Addiction Psychiatrist, Columbia University-Division on Substance Use Disorders in the Department of Psychiatry, has authored a paper on the application of an Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) Cascade of Care in a large public health system. This is an ORN-supported project designed to help improve rates of OUD diagnosis and treatment engagement. Published by The American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, the paper provides a framework for organizing and tracking patient health milestones over time. It serves as a primer for health systems seeking to implement data-informed approaches. In April's Narrative Matters essay, Angelica Al Janabi documents her experience navigating pregnancy and birth as a person with a history of trauma. Al Janabi argues for the expansion of trauma-informed care throughout medicine, and especially in reproductive and perinatal care. She also recommends routine perinatal screening for special needs including trauma and mental health challenges, and also calls for appropriate follow-up after birth and “increased funding and support designated for research, prevention, early detection, and treatment related to trauma’s effects on reproductive physical and mental health.” Read the full essay: https://bit.ly/3xTZlK4

Visual Impairment Among Adolescents Increase Risk Of Suicidal Behavior: JAMA A recent comprehensive study published in the JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association found a significant association between visual impairment and an increased risk of suicide by highlighting the mental health challenges faced by individuals with sensory impairments. This extensive review drew data until February 8, 2024 to analyze the connection between visual impairments and various aspects of suicidal behavior, including the ideation and attempts. The study involved a meta-analysis of 31 population-based studies and encompassed over 5.6 million individuals. This research employed robust statistical methods to assess the risk by revealing the substantially higher likelihood of suicidal behavior expressed in visually impaired individuals when compared to the individuals without such impairments. Also, the odds of attempting suicide or engaging in suicidal behavior were found to be more than double among those with visual impairments. #JAMANetworkOpen #SuicidalBehaviors #visuallyimpairment

Closing the stress cycle can help protect your nervous system. bit.ly/4bsbfdc The stress cycle was originally studied in the United States by psychiatrists Thomas Holmes and Richard Rahe in the late 1960s, says Tanya Tarr, behavioral scientist and president of Cultivated Insights. Holmes and Rahe began by examining the medical histories of patients to determine whether stressful life events, such as divorce, death of a loved one, home ownership, or having children were associated with an increase in illness. Statistically, they found overwhelming evidence that increasing levels of stress seemed to contribute directly to physical illness and created The Holmes-Rahe Life Stress Inventory to determine a person’s level of stress. And when we don’t take measures to close our stress cycle, we’re doing our mental and physical health a disservice. Try the following things to close the stress cycle: bit.ly/4bsbfdc

"Obstetricians, who are frequently the initial points of contact for new parents, may lack the specialized training to address complex mental health issues...[which] highlights the need for a more integrated and multidisciplinary approach to maternal healthcare that seamlessly incorporates mental health considerations." Collaborative care programs and Perinatal Psychiatry Access Programs are rising to meet the need posed by maternal mental health challenges, but more work, funding, and coordination is needed to help support and serve. #maternalMHmatters https://hubs.li/Q02tpsz30

Clinical Practice in Pediatric Psychology
The standard of care, treatment reversibility, and pediatric decision-making are three important considerations in the ethical provision of gender-affirming care for pediatric patients. Clinicians and decision-makers, including parents, ought to weigh the impact of each consideration on patient autonomy. Although the autonomy of pediatric patients is necessarily limited, steps should be taken to safeguard these patients' future decision-making capacity and align with their healthcare goals and values to the fullest extent possible. https://lnkd.in/emJjdnvy
