As a professional photographer, I see the "saturation" of the market and feel the struggle of photographers to find their "true" clients. How many facebook posts have you seen asking for a "great and cheap photographer" with dozens of photographers responding asking to be considerd? Those aren't my target clients and they don't have to be yours either. In the world of DTC marketing, it’s all about cranking out high-quality creative assets fast, and communities are absolute game-changers for doing just that. Take this toy subscription brand I worked with—they had a super active community with a killer content strategy. Here’s what they were doing: - Hosted challenges. - Gave out prizes to customers for creative uses of their monthly shipments. - Asked for feedback and opinions, rewarding customers for sharing why they loved certain products. This wasn’t just fun and games; it turned their community into a goldmine of user-generated content (UGC), which I leaned on heavily to drive their Meta ad campaigns. It’s weird how often this gets missed when brands are in search of more creative material. Trust me, plugging into a community can seriously beef up your creative asset pipeline.

The past few weeks, I've scrolled LinkedIn and seen my feed flooded with the ‘triangulation’ visual sourced from Google’s recently released modern Modern Measurement Playbook. While useful, there’s another component I’d like to draw attention to - designing incrementality tests that improve the model over time. If we’re not doing this, are we really doing our job as measurement practitioners? As Google put it, Incrementality test design and priority should be rooted largely in the following three use cases: 🧠  Refining confidence intervals for each channel’s ROAS 🧠  Validating forecasts 🧠  Measuring ‘always-on pull media’ (i.e. Brand Search) that are typically correlated with outcome KPIS A few other truths they resurfaced that I want to reiterate 📝 MMMs and Incrementality Testing are equally as important in the measurement framework. 📊 ➡️ While MMMs are great for measuring media effectiveness of over long time periods, they are correlative models, which makes their accuracy dependent on “the scale, timing, and variation of historic media spend” ➡️ Incrementality tests are the gold standard for assessing more recent / immediate impact, which enables your model to attribute performance, and predict it, more effectively. While incrementality is the gold standard for the majority of use cases, it is sometimes not the right decision to measure the performance of certain channels ❌ ➡️ Higher impact channels that prioritize awareness do not necessarily lend themselves well to sales lift testing. It is important to leverage other brand health measures such as share of search, cost per lifted user (via brand lift survey), and even nested brand equity models to measure these channels. You will see discrepancies across measurement sources (especially as you move away from last click attribution, and that is OK ✅ Here’s why: ➡️ Platform attribution typically represents a generous view of contribution, particularly for click-based channels ➡️ Incrementality typically represents a conservative view of contribution ➡️ MMM readouts, if executed correctly, will typically fall within these bounds Link to Google's recently released "Modern Measurement Playbook" below

Sometimes it feels like everyone is coupled up. I look at a lot of the brands that I admire, (like Three Ships Beauty, Blume, Aura Bora, Mintier, LOHN, Benny, Pricklee, Barbet) and they all have co-founders. I’m flying solo as I build Balloon 🎈, and I’ve never felt the compulsion to bring someone else on. Mostly because: - I like making decisions quickly; I worry that running them by someone else would slow me down - I don’t want to scale super quickly; taking this at my own pace has felt pretty healthy so far - I’ve had the good fortune to have other founders and experts in the space swoop in whenever I’ve needed guidance - My husband has been an excellent demo buddy :) However! I have a million ideas and paths I want to take, and sometimes I do get frustrated that I have very limited time to devote to blowing Balloon up (in the best way). For those of you who have a cofounder (CPG or otherwise): How did you evaluate them as a potential partner, and what made you decide to take the leap together? For those of you who don’t have a cofounder: How far along are you in building your brand, and do you regret going it alone or are you happy with your decision?

Just how worried should we be about AI’s impact on jobs? Enough that we need to be talking about this. Roetzer says many companies are asking: How do we cut agency spend? Do we need as many outside agencies? Are we able to bring work in-house now with our AI-augmented teams?

Shhh....let it go. Let it go. 😅 What worked then may not work now. Users change. *People* change. Being a solid PMM includes knowing when and where to pivot. Whether it's being a little more flexible with how you define your primary target audience (S/O to Stanley 1913), or maybe shifting your product's positioning--it's worth a try. Keeping your KPIs front and center, look at which parts of your marketing strategy would benefit the most from a makeover. The results may surprise (and humble) you.

Really proud of our newest piece of thought leadership we launched today at Zoovu. We dove into 125 product pages on big ecommerce sites and analyzed 2,000 data points to find out how companies are showcasing and selling their products online. There's some super interesting takeaways: - The average product page has over 59 pieces of information for shoppers to take in. That's A LOT of information. No wonder shopping online feels overwhelming a lot of the time - We crave validation from other shoppers and brands know it. 90% of product pages had customer reviews and over half (56.8%) had two or more types of social proof.   - Returns are a massive problem for ecomm brands and they're going all out to solve it with tactics that get shoppers to buy more, like on-page promos (56.8%) and bundling recommendations (47.2%). I had an industrial (B2B) client tell me yesterday that the product insights I provided for them back in 2012 & 2014 led them to significantly redesign their products, and that these products soon became marketplace "rock stars." The result: their competition needed to play catch up for many years, including redesigning their own products to stay relevant. I've often been asked, "What's your favorite type of research?"
