Kellen MacBeth, PMP

I serve as the Chair of the Citizens’ Advisory Commission on Housing which is the chief advisor to the County Board on housing issues in Arlington County. The Commission serves a variety of functions aimed at expanding the County Board’s knowledge about County housing conditions, trends and needs, and developing policy recommendations.

I founded Equality Arlington, a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, or Questioning (LGBTQ+) residents in Arlington, Virginia. We advocate for policies, programs, and services that meet the needs of the LGBTQ+ community whether provided by the government, non-profit, or private sector.

I served on the Board of Directors for the Alliance for Housing Solutions helping to oversee the nonprofit's strategic direction and providing advice and guidance on the organization's housing policy and advocacy agenda within Arlington County and the Commonwealth of Virginia through the Policy Committee.

I chair the Arlington NAACP's Housing Committee which studies housing conditions in the local community, addresses complaints of discrimination, advocates for fair housing policies and practices, and seeks to eliminate discrimination in housing.

I served as Commission Chair with a focus on reducing evictions, eliminating housing discrimination, increasing access to affordable housing, and working collaboratively with partners in and out of government to advance the equitable treatment of tenants and landlords. I served as a member of the Board of Directors for Arlington Thrive supporting its mission to prevent homelessness through same day emergency financial assistance to Arlington residents in crisis.

As an appointed board member, I represented the community and advised the Arlington County Board and School Board on issues involving children, youth, and families. I focused on issues relating to teen and youth empowerment and budget advocacy.

I served as a member of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS)/Catholic Campaign for Human Development Board. I assisted with the vetting and review of grants for two annual grant cycles aimed at empowering low-income individuals and groups to lift themselves out of poverty.

I founded and served as the Executive Director for GiveArlington, a philanthropic giving circle for young professionals in Arlington, Virginia. In this role I monitored the organization's grant-making, fundraising, outreach, and daily operations. Additionally, I represented GiveArlington before the public and our community partners.

I served as the volunteer team lead for the 8th Congressional District in Virginia within Virginia for Pete, a grassroots organization supporting Pete Buttigieg's 2020 presidential campaign.
