How can you make e-commerce customer service memorable?
To best learn from your customers, it is far better to observe real behavior than ask for stated preferences. Why? A lot of shopping decisions are made subconsciously. Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, is constantly gathering data from their customers to inform the web experience, assortment, and discovery tools. We probably only spot a fraction of these experiments, and just as often as they lead to UX changes, they are quietly killed. These experiments over recent years have included the ability to leave a star rating without writing a review (reducing friction and prompting more customers to leave reviews), showing sales metrics to product pages (providing social proof), and various iterations of video content.
