Media relations experts are not only there to send emails to journalists and coordinate interview logistics. We're also responsible for asking the tough questions that dig deep and get to the root of what makes your news newsworthy in the first place. Almost always, it's not about the "what," but rather about the "how." Your product is great, but nobody wants to do a story about your product without any other context. How did it come to be? Why does it exist? What problem does it solve? Who came up with it? How does it work? How is it different, and who should care? Those are the kinds of questions and answers that turn an announcement into a story.

How can News organizations, networks and local stations groups create more content, more efficiently, and with better quality? 1- Virtual #extendedreality and #augmentedreality environments on LED studios are at the forefront of the technology adoption that is making immersive experiences the gateway for a new storytelling reality. 2- How the news and local content is going to be produced to engage younger audiences in the near future is beyond today's physical and green screen studios and way closer to a gamified LED XR immersive content experience without creative boundaries.

The forecast for the upcoming hurricane season is the highest ever issued and AM radio, which plays a key role in the national Emergency Alert System, is there to help, according to this Inside Radio article. In a recent consumer report, Xperi Inc. found that AM radio, which offers emergency/weather disaster updates, community news, and more, is an indispensable part of their vehicle’s dashboard (60% agreed). Ads are different on podcasts - they work better. Jeff Ulster has an excellent summary of the arguments. Commercial TV has allowed a total ensh*ion of the experience as accountants try to figure out just how much they can push us before we leave the medium (the same goes for commercial radio). Pods have had a different ad culture - and if they stay protected, we are in good shape as an industry. But - the forces of darkness are gathering. I have noticed some of my favourite shows (talking about you Scott Galloway) now have 3 minute or more ad blocks. I used to enjoy his reads on shorter ad stacks, but now I skip them. I'm hooked on the show, so likely some algo will tell his people they could even do more, but at some point, it makes me resent the ads I do hear before hitting the skip button, which undermines the special power of podcast ads. Since pods are great at delivering niche audiences, it makes the case for branded content even stronger. You can gather a few thousand fans a day/week who care about your area of subject expertise and, since they are often spending 20-30 minutes per episode with you, create a different kind of relationship. In short - and I know everyone who works in the medium knows this, but it bears repeating - if you want to form a genuine relationship with your customers, pods are effective. https://lnkd.in/gZhM4J8W

Today's journey involved retrofitting what was, at one time, a TV studio's Announcer Booth, with updated hardware and expanded media support. I cooked this system up last year to allow our Meteorologists to record multiple, daily weather audio files for the two local radio groups, create streaming content directly into one of the weather graphics systems, edit Digital features for the web in Premiere, and even narrate severe weather coverage directly to web streaming when both production studios are otherwise occupied with local news. All the vocals for the various systems are captured via a #HeilPR40 mic and #DrawmerMXPRO60 mic processor for consistency across the board. And because the audio path here has to be simple to control, yet navigate several, disparate video systems on different AC distribution legs, there's more transformers in this booth than a Westinghouse Factory in 1950. A helpful reminder to pass along with this post - no matter how virtualized and IP-centric the infrastructure and ecosystems we're responsible for evolve to, there remains the persistent need in broadcast engineering for folks who know which end of the soldering iron to hold, how to terminate/pull/dress various cabling, and the ability to think on your feet while visualizing entire signal paths to resolve failures post-haste. #broadcastaudiopro #broadcastengineering #TVengineering #audioengineer #BaronWeather #Heilmic #Drawmeraudio #AllenandHeath #RadialAudio #TVaudio #AdobePremiere #focusritesolo #ocwhitebooms

Every public radio reporter and host has had to write newscast copy. It can feel like the most perfunctory kind of writing — the thing you do to "feed the beast" when you'd rather be working on the really fun, creative stuff. But as a longtime radio editor, I've found that newscast copy is so much more than a chore. It's a core building block to learning how to write for the ear. When you can summarize the news strategically in 30 seconds, you can tell an in-depth feature story in 4 minutes. When you can incorporation pacing, description and even humor, you're getting yourself ready to make a podcast. Does your newsroom need help with radio writing?
