They aren’t often grouped together, but the latest data in the new Variety report “Social Video vs. SVOD: The Race to Replace TV” suggests they can be thought of as a series of historical shifts in U.S. audience viewing behavior. First, the cable business broke broadcast TV’s stranglehold in the 1980s. Thirty years later, Netflix led a field of successor streaming services that siphoned eyeballs at equally sizable scale from linear TV. And now even though streaming is hardly done in terms of its growth relative to broadcast and cable, there are signs of a paradigm shift already in motion: a third wave of fragmentation in which social video begins to eat into the market share of major streaming services. Data keeps mounting that video consumption on the big social platforms — primarily YouTube, TikTok and Instagram — is growing strongly, with users spending more time on these platforms each year. These publishers will attract new demand and more scale for Seedtag’s contextual ad products. Seedtag entered the US market in 2022. But it wasn’t until earlier this year that it launched its first CTV-focused contextual ad product that allows advertisers to apply contextual targeting signals to their streaming buys. More advertisers are now looking for addressable alternatives in light of signal loss and privacy concerns, which, in turn, is driving more interest in streaming ad products. Hence Seedtag’s decision to buy rather than build in order to capture that growing demand. ✅⬇️ AdExchanger (5/24): “To some degree, the digitization of TV marketing is inevitable. Wall Street investors prefer advertising and media companies with the most promising long-term profitability. One way to get there is for streaming companies to access shopper data and strike partnerships with retailers to court advertisers with the promise of performance and attribution. Publishers want to relabel connected TV as a performance channel, (an analyst) said. But if that happens, she continued, “CTV will lose its cred” among buyers and brands as a viable replacement for legacy linear commercials. Say what you will about linear, but it’s a mass reach vehicle. And if CTV doesn’t provide the same reach opportunity, Wall Street may cool on public companies with a CTV advertising business, (the analyst) said. The reality is, upper-funnel channels, like streaming, have a strong downstream impact on outcomes even if they don’t directly drive a purchase. For example, CTV’s ability to drive mass reach and brand awareness is why more retail media spend is moving to streaming, said Max Willens, a senior analyst at eMarketer, also speaking at Programmatic I/O this week. Nearly 47% of US consumers said streaming is their most frequent method of TV viewing, while 33% said cable and just 14% satellite. Streaming is now the dominant method through which Americans consume TV, according to a recent Prosper Insights & Analytics survey. This article I feel comes up short since it really only mentions Tubi in it while there is so much more involved with this partnership. The upgraded integration combined with the Fox Sports aspect of the deal will add a very welcomed layer come fall as an additional outlet for sports buys, and with this being an election year Fox News will be a political buyers go to. #programmatic #digitaladvertising #digitalmarketing

Instacart earns MRC accreditation for the grocery tech company’s impression, click and viewability metrics across several ad formats, as retail media competition heats up. the Media Rating Council (MRC) has granted accreditation for the #grocery tech company’s impression, click and viewability metrics across Sponsored Product, Display, Shoppable Display and Shoppable Video ad formats in both the U.S. and Canada. Instacart’s MRC accreditation could give its #retailmedia offering a leg up as advertisers look for clarity and consistency for their ad spend in the rapidly growing channel. Instacart has looked to offer advertisers full-funnel ad options, with top-of-funnel discovery ad products including Shoppable Display and Shoppable Video ads using rich media to drive conversion while Sponsored Product ads help brands to maximize sales and category share. Previously, Instacart partnered with third-party verification providers DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science around viewability and invalid traffic measurement. I still believe the best way to buy all media, when possible, is programmatically to enable decisioning. However, the current setup isn't efficient and frankly kinda sucks when it comes to TV. Between fraud and unnecessary middlemen that don't add value, we need a change. (Yes, Goodway Group is already on its way to a huge CTV buying overhaul that will deliver 30-40% more CTV value for brands shortly!)

By adding UID2, Roku advertisers will be able to “achieve more precise targeting,” said Charlie Collier, president of Roku Media. And Roku advertisers who want to use UID2 can use the Roku Exchange, a more direct, data-enriched path between Roku supply and programmatic demand launched in June. Roku Exchange is integrated with an array of DSPs, including The Trade Desk.
