The onus was on me at my church's youth department week celebration to speak and I spoke about the youth and their civic engagement.I took examples from the life of reputable men and women in the bible who due to their civic engagement brought lasting change to their community.I admonished the church to consider their civic engagement.Examples were taken from the life of Deborah,Esther, David, Jeremiah and Daniel.I encouraged us all to discover our passion, purpose and potential to make us more viable because we would need money for any endeavor even as little as a bottle of oil.Scripture verses were Jeremiah 1:4-10, Daniel 6:3, Romans 13:1-6, Luke 10: 25-37.Gen 1:27-28(I used this verse to speak about the youth and governance). What is meant by civic engagement? Well I got these few. Civic engagement or civic participation is any individual or group activities addressing issues of public concern. Civic engagement includes communities working together or individuals alone both political and non political actions to protect public values or make a change in the community. It involves ways citizens participate In the life of the community to improve the conditions of others. Examples of Civic engagement are political engagement, community engagement,civic skills engagement and social justice engagement. The pleasure is always mine to impact. In the wake of Vice President Kamala Harris's ascension as the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, the Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion conducted a poll on the opinions of Black voters July 22-24 in relation to Harris's candidacy. The report includes results from more than 2000 respondents from more than 30 states, weighted by gender and education level. Results suggest that Harris is best known for her advocacy for reproductive rights, that her best path to victory is to select a white male running mate, and that respondents view her as a politically moderate Democrat. My published doctoral research on "The Lived Leadership Experiences of Black Women Professionals: A Phenomenological Qualitative Study of the Intersectionality of Race and Gender" challenges the "Strong Black Woman" schema. While this narrative celebrates the resilience seen in historical and contemporary Black women leaders, it often masks the complex challenges they face. In today's political climate, understanding the impact of racial and gender stereotypes on leadership is invaluable. My findings highlight the need to acknowledge the full humanity of Black women leaders - their strengths, vulnerabilities, and experiences of intersectionality in professional settings. How can we honor the Black women leaders while creating space for vulnerability and support? Preserving Black cultural heritage and spaces is a compelling project of recovering an inheritance of perseverance and creativity. By locating, maintaining, and sharing the stories of Black families and communities, we rediscover the meaning of kinship, social justice, and political innovation. In the face of a history of racism and prejudice that has undermined Black intergenerational wealth, could Black cultural heritage provide a way for us to also recognize and value Black intergenerational worth?

Excited to share that the 2023 impact report for LISC's Black Economic Development Fund (BEDF) is now live. Since 2020, with generous support from our investors, BEDF has committed a majority of its capital, investing $211.9 million to fuel Black-led financial institutions, Black-led businesses, and other organizations doing business in predominantly Black communities addressing economic challenges and contributing to closing the racial wealth gap. Through initiatives like BEDF, LISC remains at the forefront of efforts to enhance capital access for entrepreneurs serving communities of color. Judges ruling against anonymous plaintiffs suing a company aimed at helping its own raises eyebrows. The data suggests those suing may be the ones in need of assistance. Black women supporting black women is crucial. “The panel also ruled that the plaintiffs, who were not identified by name” Anonymous bullies suing a company aimed at helping its own because data shows they are the ones who need help Black women helping black women. Remember, Black Wall Street was built because racists told us we could not have what they have and get it ourselves. So we went and built our own. And then the racists burned it down anyway. They many not be able to come in and burn it down in the same physical manner, but by abusing the power of law, the ideal is the same. To Whom It May Concern, Being a senior ambassador scholar at Fort Valley State University majoring in Social Work and receiving the White House HBCU Initiative Scholar title gives me a great responsibility and chance to bring about significant change both inside and outside of my HBCU. Being a White House HBCU Initiative Scholar first represents a dedication to leadership, service, and advocacy rather than only academic success. This esteemed title enables me to show my colleagues that brilliance has no boundaries when driven by tenacity and will, therefore acting as a lighthouse of inspiration and hope. As a White House Scholar, I hope to use the tools and platform this program offers to solve important social concerns impacting underprivileged areas. As my chosen field of study, social work gives me the tools I need to advocate for social justice, advance equity, and improve the well-being of people and families overcoming hardship. In particular, I intend to play this role starting and helping initiatives emphasizing mental health awareness, community empowerment, and educational justice. These areas are essential for creating a more inclusive society in which every person has chances to flourish independent of their background or situation. Moreover, am dedicated to working with nearby companies, legislators, and colleague academics to create environmentally friendly solutions that remove structural obstacles and advance general growth. Through encouraging alliances and open communication, I hope to bring about long-lasting transformation going beyond my academic career. As a senior ambassador scholar, I also see my chance to encourage and teach next generations of students-especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. By means of mentoring programs and outreach campaigns, I hope to motivate young brains to follow their aspirations and acknowledge their capacity to bring about constructive change in their local environments. Ultimately, being a White House HBCU Initiative Scholar and senior ambassador scholar at Fort Valley State University majoring in Social Work calls to action rather than just a label or praise. As I work to significantly influence the life of others and help to create a more fair and equal society, it is a privilege and a responsibility I completely welcome.

In 30 days, my book BEING BLACK IN AMERICA’S SCHOOLS will be officially released.  I cannot wait for the world to read this book. For almost 4 years, I have been on a journey to tell a necessary and powerful story to the world.    Every day there are millions of children in our education system, specifically Black and Brown, who have been made to believe a false narrative that they cannot succeed, that they have no rightful place in our schools or our society; they have been pushed to the margins. This has happened through the structural design of our schools, curricular choices, daily interpersonal interactions, policies, practices, and more. Now it’s time to tell that story, shedding light on the inherent injustices within our system while uncovering the psychological and emotional impact it causes. And most importantly, now it’s time to inspire us all to action to improve America’s education system together. If not now, then when?     Check out the book trailer! My work serving on boards has provided me with invaluable professional and personal insights. This documentary highlights some of the challenges being faced by Black women seeking these same opportunities. "The journey of Black women striving for equal footing in corporate leadership, especially within corporate boardrooms, has been a saga of resilience amidst systemic hurdles. Championing fair policies, bolstering childcare support, and acknowledging the distinct challenges faced by Black working mothers are imperative steps toward cultivating an inclusivity. Only through multiple tactics can tomorrow's boardrooms truly reflect our society's diversity and multifaceted talent pool."

Ok I’ve fully saat with my thoughts from last night and wow… 1: The ENERGY around Kamala is mesmerizing and palatable. Its electrifying and makes people excited about the future! 2: Why? Because VP Harris clearly outlined key policy objectives and priorities. Most of her policy options are common sense and most people agree with them. 3: That being said I am not trilled she plans to keep the former boarder deal. I personally do not feel like the immigration system the biggest issue of the country but I understand the Economic impact. I understand the need to have a strict stance given the current climate but I would hope that in office there are better solutions that are able to proposed. 4: Because unlike her opponent she can admit fault and is willing to have conversations and learn from people who have different opinions and that’s why VP Harris calling Trump to the mat on debates was one of my favorite moments. Her being willing to stand up and defend her statements in front of the American people as well as contrasting her record *chefs kiss* and she did it in a way that only a Black woman could 5: Lastly one of the criticisms of her as a candidate especially from black voters is that she won’t act specifically for Black people and she listened and took the time to use current cultural voices to amplify her platforms A: Quavo for gun violence B: Megan for reproductive rights and bodily autonomy C: Stacy Abram’s for voting rights D: sen. Warnock for religious rights E: sen. Ossoff for Jewish rights F: a young black entrepreneur from Morehouse to discuss economic development And I’m not mad at it because Meg has been consistently politically active. Quavo has an audience of young Black men who have been ignored as a part of the electorate and dismissed by a large part of the community and these appearances got young people to come listen rally speeches. Hopefully it will help them continue to listen to the policies and actually go vote. But I’m flabbergasted by the contrast of how fringe young Black culture and votes were to the 08 campaigns which is why I think people got turned off during the Obama presidency. I think it’s so interesting how fast the shift in importance of “the culture” occurred in response to the MAGA cultural rise. It’s poetic that hip hop, Black culture, and Black women are being called to save the country… like in snoop dogg & flava flav were once considered some of the most dangerous rappers in the world and now they are US Olympics ambassadors I think politics and government should be about everyone having 100% of what they need and about 55-65% of what they want… if one group is 100% happy then a large group of others are suffering We have come so far in a short period of time for better or worse we are not going back 🤷🏾‍♀️

When mastering professional etiquette, there should ALWAYS be considerations given to verbal and non-verbal communications. I had the pleasure of facilitating a very energetic conversation about this topic with college students from several different colleges during UNCF's Leadership Conference this year. One thing we as black people hear alot - yall always look angry. Most often times we are not aware of our facial expressions and how others could perceive it. I mean honestly, who cares what other people think right? Wrong... We absolutely should care when the situation does not warrant such expression - especially in professional settings. Read that again. Being approachable is key to success. It is apart of being professional especially in leadership roles. Check out their reaction as I share my experience with being corrected by my husband on several occassions. You had to be there to catch the full vibe though!!
