At the core of effective engineering leadership is the ability to stay connected with your team. This is perhaps the most challenging aspect because retaining the respect of your people is difficult unless you remain technically involved yourself. In my journey as an engineering leader, staying true to the individual contributor role that originally earned their respect has kept me close. This approach extends beyond technical expertise; it's about maintaining a deep connection with the core activities that propel product development forward at Gearflow. One of my biggest professional fears is becoming irrelevant or disconnected from my team and our work. This fear motivates me to continually reinvent and retool in response to market demands. Next month, I'll be sharing about my adventures generating synthetic data recently. And while I'm no expert when I start preparing for these talks, the process is incredibly valuable. It's less about delivering a perfect talk and more about how the preparation expands my thinking and exposes me to new capabilities. This helps me connect the dots to opportunities at Gearflow that bring real innovation to our customers. Speaking regularly holds me accountable and pushes me to learn ahead of the curve, ensuring I remain relevant and impactful day-to-day. Every talk is a journey of discovery, helping me to lead with humility, communicate clearly, and inspire a culture of innovation through a deep, technical understanding of our work.

*Ducks Now Sitting (DNS): Internet Infrastructure Insecurity* These are the first line of the research made by Infoblox and Eclypsium who discovered this issue. DNS (Domain Name System) is filled with sitting ducks (Ducks Now Sitting) for domain name hijacking. Multiple threat actors have been exploiting this attack vector which we are calling Sitting Ducks since at least 2019 to perform malware delivery, phishing, brand impersonation, and data exfiltration. Cool day. Llama 3.1 405B released this AM. CentML has it hosted live this afternoon (try it out below 👇). CentML also optimized it for higher throughput and lower latency based on its preferred compute stack. Planning to build with Llama 3.1 and beyond? CentML might save you millions (on top of what Meta is saving you), and help you deliver best-in-class experiences for your users.

🚨 Security Update: Roku has recently mandated multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all users following a credential stuffing attack. This incident underscores the crucial role of MFA in safeguarding accounts. MFA adds an extra verification step, enhancing security even if passwords are compromised. 🔑 Why is MFA crucial? 1. Enhanced Security Layers: Protects against unauthorized access even if a password is leaked. 2. Compliance and Trust: Meets regulatory requirements and boosts user confidence. 3. Reduced Fraud Risk: Decreases the likelihood of identity theft and fraud. 🛠 Importance of User Experience (UX): Ensuring a smooth and intuitive MFA setup process is vital. Great UX in MFA not only encourages user adoption but also ensures that security enhancements don’t become a barrier to user engagement. 🌐 Consider MFA not just as a feature but as a necessity for your digital security strategy. Stay safe! #cybersecurity #mfa #userexperience #usermanagement

Super excited to see this announcement for professional *and* personal reasons. On the professional side, having powerful backup and restore capabilities for the super-popular monday.com SaaS service available in R-Cloud is very helpful for monday customers that need protection against accidental or malicious deletes of their monday.com boards and items, and it's built by our development partner Avisi Apps. Personally, because this development relationship started about a year ago when I noticed a LinkedIn update (https://lnkd.in/gH3YvRth) from Gert-Jan van de Streek about his visit to Atlassian Team last year. HYCU was there as well, but did not run into Gert-Jan who I went to college with in the Netherlands, now over 25 years ago. We started talking about what HYCU does for Atlassian, and how this could help Avisi build out protection for their Atlassian customers. Gert-Jan mentioned they do a lot for monday.com as well, so I asked if they would be interested in developing the R-Cloud Module for monday.com. And that's how this all started :)

Large Language Models (#LLMs) are evolving rapidly, and the demand for running them at scale is skyrocketing. #Ollama is stepping up to meet this need with its official container image on Docker Hub, excelling in local #deployments. However, there’s a catch for containerized environments: downloading #models requires the ollama serve command to be running within the #container. This extra step complicates automated deployments via #CI #CD #pipelines, making seamless model access challenging. To take your #model to production, it needs to be #container-ready—a feature Ollama has yet to fully support. The gap in #AIOps for smooth deployments gets blurred with the inference services available as an easy way to take it to production. Goal is to overcome obstacles and deliver solutions 😉 so here is to get you started on having your (O)#llama #production ready in a private #deployment from your #local to #cloud all in #oneshot . Enjoy Medium: https://lnkd.in/g9jqBQ8d dev.to: https://lnkd.in/gi_gGwam #AI #LLM #Ollama #llama3 #phi3 #mistral #S6overlay #AIOps #CI #CD #oneshot #container #docker #podmanEnjoy

This is the initial infrastructure Tradescoop was built on. A few things have changed, some additions and removals; for example, we’ve gone from MongoDB on Digital Ocean to Mongo Atlas, Redis cloud to Memorystore, but the general appraoch remains. Simplicity. Shouts to Karl Obinna Amalu, CSM for cleaning it up and adding color ✨ #gcp #infrastructure #devops

Snippets is now available for all Cloudflare enterprise customers ✂ -- My inbox has been flooded the past six months with people wanting access to Cloudflare Snippets. I've even been asked about it at parties, on multiple occasions (!). Snippets are a simple way of executing a small piece of Javascript on select traffic. At no extra cost. Snippets gives those users who need that 'little bit more than what the out-of-the-box Rules offer' the ability to do so, without being penalised with a bill. Think "I want to add a HTTP request header, but also...". The great news today is *the rollout continues*. If you have an Enterprise zone, you'll see Snippets is now available under 'Rules'. Have fun, and don't hesitate to get in touch with any feedback you have ✉ (Other plan types will get access in the coming weeks and months as we continue with the gradual rollout).

The past two years at StarTree, working with the Apache Pinot community, have been fantastic. I’ve been able to get to know some incredibly talented people, and it’s validated my perspective that the advent of event-driven architecture is real and pressing, and even more interesting than I realized. Looking back, I’d never spent that much time focusing on analytics and the huge set of tools and concerns that attend it. It’s a critical ecosystem with a history deeper than digital computing itself, and I anticipate a lot of fruitful work with the Pinot community in the months and years to come. That being said, it’s ironic that my time working with this community has crystallized an important idea I’d been developing since before I joined it. The disruption introduced into our world by the perfect storm of the cloud, microservices, and ubiquitous Kafka has created an entirely new approach to building business software. It’s new, uncharted territory to be explored—and I want to help map out as much of it as possible, together with the hundreds and thousands developers who are doing the work of building applications in this new world. That’s why I’ve decided to transition from StarTree, and return to Confluent as VP of Developer Relations. The most valuable thing we can do as developers is write differentiated code that provides meaningful value to our customers or users. That code sits atop a huge stack of what is, with respect to their businesses, undifferentiated software—various kinds of frameworks and infrastructure components—that solves hard problems that application developers shouldn’t have to spend time on. They shouldn’t build that software, but they need to know how to navigate the terrain and make choices in the space they can trust. The problem is that the event-driven revolution has thrown a somewhat stable stack into relative disarray, so some of us are lured into creating little bits of data infrastructure in that unknown area between our code and Kafka. Those of us who are able to avoid that temptation still aren’t totally clear on what all that terrain looks like, and what infrastructure should even live there. History suggests this could take another five to ten years to stabilize. It will require the input of many communities, vendors, and a world full of developers. In my opinion, Confluent is the company that is best positioned to significantly move the needle on this problem, and that’s why I’m excited to (re)join them. One company can’t do it all, but their vision of the Data Streaming Platform is exactly what I’m talking about here. The opportunity to lead a world-class developer relations team at the company which has pioneered the journey so far, and is building the most comprehensive vision for its next stage, is a tremendous one. I’m delighted to be back, and eager to do my part to help chart our course to the future. It is, as I am wont to say, a wonderful time to be alive.
