Job Summary:
Trileaf is seeking a full time Archaeological Technician/Field Archaeologist, remote in the Pacific Northwest (PNW). You must live in the Seattle, WA area or plan to relocate.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct background research in support of field surveys and report production.
- Conduct fieldwork and data collection in accordance with standard professional practice under the supervision of Project Archaeologists/Senior Archaeologists/Architectural Historians.
- Under general supervision, assist with collecting, identifying, and cataloguing artifacts.
- Collect observational, spatial, and archaeological data during field surveys.
- Assist with performing basic professional archaeological work relating to cultural resources, including verifying the characteristics of a site and providing entry-level technical assistance on various preservation and environmental issues.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurement and documentation.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and/or field/work site notebook.
- Utilize the latest archaeological methods, procedures, technologies, and techniques in performing studies and analysis of sites and potential impacts to resources of cultural and scientific significance.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include, but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory and/or statistical documentation, and logbooks.
- Other duties as assigned
To be considered, the resume of the applicant must demonstrate the following qualifications/skills:
- Experience in basic research report knowledge. Ideally, experience writing and research associated with Phase I and Phase II technical reports
- A clear understanding and/or willingness to gain understanding of the Section 106 review process and the ability to apply the associated criteria.
- Ideally, one to two years of relevant experience.
- Analytical skills
- Familiarity with local/regional precontact and/or historic archaeology.
- Familiar with relevant laws, regulations, preservation compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Good computer skills, with strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook PowerPoint etc.). Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) a plus.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and able to express ideas effectively and professionally to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
- Valid Driver License
- Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology
