Summary

This position is located in the Office of the Commissioner (OC), Office of External Affairs , Operations Staff, History office in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The incumbent will carry out assignments involving documentation, preservation of FDA history; protecting records and ensuring proper storage; development of substantial descriptive products intended to enable discovery and use of analogue and electronic records.

The position of Archivist falls under the 1420 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-11/12, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 07/16/2024. Basic Requirements A) Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. - OR- B) Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations. GS-11: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09, in the Federal service, which includes: managing the development of digital records management systems, policies and procedures for archival holdings; finding aids for the program to help manage records; contributing to planning permanent federal record preservation in electronic format. -OR- Have 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree -OR- A combination of specialized experience and education as described above that, when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement. GS-12: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11, in the Federal service, which includes: developing and/or establishing digital record management systems, policies and procedures for archival holdings; appraising the potential archival value of records; curating textual and multimedia records for digital preservation; recommending new approaches for disposition of records.
