Art Education, Full-Time, Temporary Assistant Professor

UCO Art Department invites applications for an art education full-time, temporary assistant professor who is committed to excellence in teaching to replace a sabbatical leave for 2024-2025.

Position Overview

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

  • Teach two sections of ART 3302 Teaching Art for Children in fall 24 and spring 25 for non-majors, following guidelines
  • Teach ART 2012 Introduction to Art Education and ART 4843 Elementary Art Education Methods in fall 2024, and ART 4853 Secondary Art Education Method in spring 25 for art education majors
  • Coordinate art teacher preparation, K-12 art certification, admission to teacher education and student teaching collaborating with the College of Education and Professional Studies
  • Supervise art education adjuncts
  • Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Maintain appropriate records, assign earned grades, report needed data to the department, and complete all necessary department assessment information as a coordinator of art education
  • Reports to a dean or chair and performs instruction-related to duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the College of Fine Arts and Designs and College of Education and Professional Studies

Qualifications/ Experience Required

  • Masters in Education Pk-12
  • Experience teaching art in Pk-12

Preferred

  • Doctorate or ABD in art education preferred
  • Higher education teaching experience in art education preferred
