Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Assistant Director of Development, under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Development for Major & Planned Gifts, will be an integral part of the Development and Alumni Relations team for Eastern Kentucky University. This position will travel extensively, both within Kentucky and beyond, to advance a culture of philanthropy at EKU. The Assistant Director of Development will serve an important role in the university's campaign by helping to build the university's portfolio of major and planned gift prospects, helping to establish a major gift pipeline. Immediate emphasis will be placed on developing effective skills to identify, qualify, and cultivate donor prospects. Beyond a successful first year, greater emphasis will be placed on solicitating major and planned gifts. This position is a learning role. As such, the incumbent will work under the close oversight and direction of the Assistant Vice President of Development for Major & Planned Gifts to grow the incumbent's knowledge and experience.

This position requires an ability to identify, qualify, and cultivate donor prospects toward solicitation of major and planned gifts. Shortly after onboarding, this position will gain assignment to one or more college, school, unit, and/or program of the university. Emphasis will be placed on solicitating major and planned gifts with expectation to serve as a development representative within assigned colleges, schools, units, and/or programs.

This position requires experience in the identification, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of major and planned gifts. Shortly after onboarding, this position will gain assignment to one or more college, school, unit, and/or program of the university. Emphasis will be placed on solicitating major and planned gifts with expectation to provide fundraising counsel, leadership, and donor stewardship on behalf of assigned colleges, schools, units, and/or programs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Director: Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree and CFRE preferred.

Associate Director: Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree preferred.

Assistant Director Experience: Bachelor's degree required.

Experience: Director: Three years of related work experience is required, preferably in development, alumni relations, non-profit fundraising, or higher education administration. Major gift and higher education experience is preferred.

Associate Director: One year of related work experience is required, preferably in development, marketing, sales, alumni relations, non-profit fundraising, or higher education.

Assistant Director: Related work experience is not necessary, however the incumbent must clearly demonstrate an interest for a professional career in development. This may be accomplished through past experience interning, volunteering, or being otherwise engaged in the non-profit sector.

Licensure & Certifications: Director: Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Job Duties:

  • 85% - Provide effective fundraising strategy and oversight of assigned development prospects. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Collaborate between the Office of Development and Alumni Relations and any assigned colleges, schools, units and/or programs. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Complete all other duties as assigned - (Essential)

Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending upon the needs of the unit, available sponsorship budget, and the qualifications of the candidate.
