Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Doctorate in a related field of technology, science, or engineering required at the time of hire, or a Master’s degree in technology, science, or engineering with professional licensure at the time of hire may also be considered.

Areas Of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)

The department especially seeks:

  • a demonstrated commitment to sustainability;
  • experience in the design, installation, commissioning, and/or performance testing of solar photovoltaic (PV) plus storage renewable energy systems;
  • university teaching experience;
  • an active research agenda, as demonstrated by journal publications, presentations, and/or external research funding; and
  • professional work experience or certifications in relevant industries.

Description Of The Department Or Unit

The Department of Sustainable Technology & the Built Environment ( STBE ) is in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. STBE has approximately 900 students and offers two undergraduate degrees: the B.S. in Building Sciences and the B.S. in Sustainable Technology.

The Department also offers the M.S. in Technology. The faculty exemplify a commitment to excellence in teaching and interdisciplinary research focused on renewable energy solutions; sustainable design and construction of healthy, high-performance buildings; and providing experiential learning opportunities. Our students have achieved notable successes in national and international competitions, including the American Solar Challenge / Formula Sun Grand Prix, USDOE Solar Decathlon, Solar Decathlon Europe, USEPA P3, USDOE Solar District Cup and USDOE EnergyTECH University Prize.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses related to sustainability and renewable energy technology.

Other responsibilities include expanding program contacts in the renewable energy industry, maintaining an active research agenda, participating in program and departmental service, advising students, and maintaining and enhancing teaching and research labs.

ABD Consideration: ABD with reduction in rank and salary (see desc. below)

ABD Description

ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate’s salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
