Assistant Program Manager

Position Summary:

The Assistant Program Manager is responsible for ensuring smooth execution and high-quality on-air experiences for WURD Radio's special broadcasts, programs, and the daily show Evening WURDs. The ideal candidate is an energetic and organized individual with a passion for live radio and multimedia production, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and a strong sense of journalistic integrity. The Assistant Program Manager will engage with WURD's audience, develop compelling content, and ensure seamless execution of programming and special projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and implement WURD Radio programming and special projects, ensuring smooth execution and high-quality on-air experiences
  • Assist the Program Director with event programming, including assembling panels, drafting event outlines and questions, and communicating relevant information to WURD featured guests
  • Maintain programming department documentation, ensuring updates are reflected in marketing materials and digital properties
  • Attend weekly producers meetings, programming meetings, team meetings, and other meetings as assigned
  • Serve as Executive Producer of Evening WURDs, responsible for the overall quality, structure, presentation, and execution of the show airing from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday-Thursday

Additional Duties:

  • Serve as the showrunner for Evening WURDs
  • Collaborate with the host on daily show rundowns, topics, interview guests, special segments, and daily headlines
  • Maintain the show calendar, ensuring a minimum of three guests per show each day
  • Develop special features and regular segments in collaboration with the host
  • Implement sponsored segments by finding compelling guests, scheduling interviews, and assisting the host with interview prep
  • Produce all live remote and special broadcasts during the 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM time slot
  • Follow current events and breaking news, developing a roster of guests who can be interviewed and comment on relevant topics
  • Identify high-profile guests and conduct research to prepare the host with interview questions and talking points
  • Maintain a thorough source list with contact information
  • Communicate with guests to ensure a positive experience, including securing bios and promotional photos, sending calendar invites with Zoom links, and offering prompt follow-up with interview audio
  • Prepare hosts, guests, or other program contributors so that on-air interviews meet established production standards, rules, and regulations
  • Assist with post-production editing, including podcasts as well as editing and producing audio for promo soundbites
  • Work collaboratively with the marketing team to promote high-profile guests and interview content on social media and WURD websites
  • Edit shows for upload to podcasting platforms such as SoundCloud, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts
  • Write compelling and descriptive show content for digital platforms, including SoundCloud, Spotify, Apple News, WURD Radio websites, YouTube, social media, and others

Qualifications:

  • Experience in studio engineering, live broadcast, and technical production
  • Strong research skills, developing compelling interview questions
  • Experience in guest and client relations and show production
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent coordination, research, and written communication abilities
  • Proficiency in audio editing and familiarity with audio and video recording, conferencing, and streaming platforms
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to breaking news
  • Proficiency in maintaining documentation and updating digital properties
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Experience in journalism and a strong awareness of the tenets of journalistic integrity

Physical Demands:

  • Role requires performing tasks that require sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to manipulate standard office equipment, keyboard, and occasionally operate a motor vehicle
  • May be required to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions
