This position is responsible for managing the undergraduate and graduate international student recruitment portfolio and will organize various programs and activities related to the international portfolio to improve efficiencies and develop related program and project budgets.

Primary Duties

  • Continuously stay informed about all requirements, policies, and procedures related to international student recruitment. This includes understanding student eligibility for admissions, SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) regulations, English language proficiency requirements, foreign education credential evaluation, distinctions in secondary education systems across countries, and internal institutional policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the team of staff members responsible for international student admissions, ensuring effective coordination and performance.
  • Collaborate with the Padnos International Center and other campus departments to create a seamless onboarding experience for international students, ensuring they have the necessary support and resources.
  • Develop a comprehensive recruitment plan for a specific population or territory that aligns with the institution’s Strategic Enrollment Management Plan (SEMP). This plan should outline the strategies and goals for attracting international students.
  • Act as a representative of the institution both on and off-campus, engaging with prospective students, parents, and relevant organizations involved in the college selection process. Use sales and marketing techniques to promote the university and maintain relationships.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual visits at local college and community fairs, and other events where international students are anticipated, and travel abroad for in-person visits when approved.
  • Responsible for supporting international student orientation activities, ensuring that they have a smooth transition into the university. Evaluate orientation processes and make strategic improvements as needed. Collaborate with internal and external partners to facilitate the transfer and orientation of international students.
  • Establish and maintain meaningful relationships with recruitment agents and manage direct leads, including callbacks and follow-ups.
  • Manage the recruitment territory by actively managing prospect relationships, leveraging partnerships, and utilizing admissions and enrollment data to maintain consistent recruitment activity. Aim to increase interaction with prospective students and influence admission yield.
  • Be available during enrollment seasons to implement critical enrollment strategies, such as melt prevention (reducing the number of admitted students who do not enroll) and yield attainment (maximizing the number of admitted students who choose to enroll).
  • Lead training activities for staff members and actively participate in information sessions, open houses, and other recruitment and yield-related events.
  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in international student admissions or significant experience working with international students in a related capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and supervising professional staff in a progressively responsible role.
  • Deep understanding of recruitment and marketing techniques specific to international student populations.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to GVSU’s vision of inclusion and equity.
  • Valid driver’s license, passport, and other documents necessary to perform the essential duties of this position.
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as required throughout the year.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Master's degree in a relevant field such as International Education, Business Administration, Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration, or Global/International Studies.
  • Relevant certificates or additional training such as SEVIS training, NAFSA Professional Development Program, or certifications in International Education.
  • Experience working with International Agents.
  • Extensive experience in higher education administration.
  • Proficiency in using customer relationship management systems (CRM).
  • Experience working with college or university students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Multilingual proficiency.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • In -person (non-remote).
  • Normal office environment.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required at various times throughout the year.
  • Extensive travel is required.

Salary: Approximately $75,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience
