About Indiana Afterschool Network

The Indiana Afterschool Network (IAN) wants every young person in Indiana to have the best chance at making a great life for themselves and a positive impact in their communities. We believe out-of-school time programming (i.e., before school, after school, and during the summer) can play a major role in that. For more than two decades, IAN has been committed to out-of-school time (OST) organizations through supports and resources that promote continuous quality improvement of programs, increase families’ access to OST programming, and advocacy that help to shape the environments in which OST providers serve.

Position Summary

A critical part of the IAN team, the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Development is responsible for developing and implementing an organizational resource development strategy that results in both funding to support IAN’s capacity to serve Indiana’s OST field and projects/initiatives aimed at strengthening and promoting the sustainability of the OST field. Working with leadership and cross-functional teams, the AVP of Development establishes goals, designs and implements development strategies, supports team and field engagement in development efforts, and measures impact while ensuring IAN’s related systems and structures are equitable and inclusive.

Major Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Work cross-departmentally to achieve IAN’s strategic priorities and goals pertaining to resource development.
  • Develop and implement a data-informed organizational development plan, aligning IAN’s priorities with the needs of Indiana’s OST field.
  • Engage and advance priority funders that are connected to IAN’s long-term vision and goals
  • Remain up to date on industry best practices for engaging donors, grantors, and sponsors.

Engagement

  • Develop partnerships between foundations, public, and corporate partners leading to sustainable funding for out-of-school time.
  • Manage a portfolio of foundation, public, nonprofit, and corporate partners that are committed to IAN’s success and the broader growth and advancement of Indiana’s OST field.
  • Establish and implement a robust stewardship and communication plan to ensure funders stay up to date and engaged in key organizational happenings.
  • Lead the drafting, submission, and stewardship of grant proposals for the organization, engaging other team members as needed.
  • Spearhead organizational events, including but not limited to, IAN’s annual Summit on Out-of-School Learning and funder/partner events.
  • Facilitate professional development for partner grantees and members to promote organizational and programmatic sustainability in Indiana’s OST field.

Measurement & Reporting

  • Set and manage ambitious annual resource development goals in partnership with IAN leadership and board of directors.
  • Manage IAN’s grants calendar and ensure contact management, grant tracking, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Work with IAN leaders to assess plans for prospective funders, review strategies, prepare for upcoming engagements, and track progress.
  • Institute tools and metrics for evaluating and reporting on funder engagement and the efficacy of IAN’s development efforts.

Demonstrated Skills & Abilities

  • Must demonstrate ability to work in and promote an inclusive and welcoming environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our providers, partners, and employees
  • No less than 7 (seven) years of experience in fundraising, development, donor cultivation, stewardship, grant solicitation, or another related field required.
  • Experience developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and influencing skills.
  • Deep understanding of philanthropy and how nonprofits function.
  • Keen ability to dig into data and translate into actionable insights.
  • Able to foster strong collaborative working relationships.
  • Adept at completing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to problem-solve effectively and creatively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Philanthropy, Marketing, Nonprofit Development, or a related field.
  • Passion for youth work and an understanding of the connection between in-school and OST learning
  • Willingness to travel throughout the state for development and partnership-building activities.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to transportation.
