We help employers solve talent gaps by finding promising previously untapped candidates and prepare them to excel in new careers after they graduate from one of our four technical training tracks.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you ready to make a difference in Colorado’s technology industry while working in an innovative environment committed to social justice and economic mobility? ActivateWork is seeking an experienced Career Coach to join our team.
As a Career Coach at ActivateWork, you play a pivotal role. You will prepare and guide graduates as they embark on fulfilling careers in the tech sector and collaborate with the ActivateWork team to iterate and fine-tune our program delivery.
The Career Coach will be a trusted and knowledgeable resource for our current learners and recent graduates from program onboarding through 12 months after learners begin their new careers. In this capacity, you will conduct group career coaching sessions with participants who are currently completing technical training courses including Software Engineering, IT Support, Security Fundamentals, and AWS re/Start through ActivateWork. You’ll also work one-on-one to provide a variety of individualized learners supports and may refer coachees out to our network of community partners for additional services. As learners graduate and transition into full-time roles in the tech industry, you’ll continue to support them via job search accountability and post-placement coaching sessions.

What You’ll Do
Facilitate Coaching Sessions
- Lead group coaching sessions with cohort of learners focused on building durable skills and increasing readiness for employment.
- Meet individually and regularly with participants to provide career and job retention coaching using ActivateWork’s frameworks. Facilitate follow-up sessions and integrate feedback.
- Provide 12 months of on-the-job coaching support to learners upon their attainment of a new role after completing an ActivateWork course.
- Provide goal-oriented guidance, and coach learners through the development of steps to success and overcoming potential challenges.
- Promote success-enhancing cognitive, psychological, and physical habits and routines.
- Encourage coachees by recognizing milestones and mitigating challenges that hinder progress. Perform progress assessments and utilize motivation techniques.
- Support meeting organizational key performance indicators (KPIs) regarding participant engagement in coaching and job retention.
- Ensure timely reporting of coachees’ progress in Salesforce
- Evaluate coaching effectiveness and outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Aggregate data on coachees’ progress and report to external stakeholders.
- Ensure open and effective communication with our internal learner success, career development, and talent solutions teams to provide seamless learner supports.
- Collaborate with our primary technical instruction partner and instructional teams where appropriate
- Play an integral role in designing and launching bridge programming focused on 18-24 year old learners
- Additional special projects will be assigned on an as needed basis
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION
- 5-7 years of professional experience in mentoring, advising, counseling, or coaching involving case management in workforce, school or related professional setting
- 3-5 years of professional experience related to technology or a demonstrated interest in the tech sector
- Experience with individuals or groups with barriers to employment such as poverty and/or justice-involved
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral
- Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills
- Solid critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing skills are a plus
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience with Microsoft 365 and Salesforce preferred
- Thrives in a creative, inventive, fast-paced startup environment with people who are passionate about their work and mission.
- Is confident facilitating tough conversations with coachees.
- Is data-driven, results-oriented, and a forward-looking catalyst for social change.
- Has a collaborative and flexible work style. You’re excited to work cross-functionally with other departments and independently.
- Has exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate and effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders
- Is tech-savvy and can learn quickly.
- Has strong time management skills and can balance multiple projects and tasks.
- Lives within reasonable commuting distance to central Denver office. Coach will be required to be in the office 2-3 days/week.
