The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will be responsible for overseeing and managing the information technology and computer systems of Grant Thornton. The role involves setting the strategic direction for IT, ensuring that the firm's technology infrastructure is robust, secure and scalable, and aligning IT strategies with Grant Thornton’s business objectives, including facilitating growth of the offshore IT team and capabilities. The CIO will work closely with senior management to identify and implement technology solutions that enhance client service, operational efficiency, and competitive advantage. This role involves close collaboration with senior leadership to drive innovation, manage risks, and ensure the secure and efficient operation of IT systems across the firm.

Your day-to-day may include:

  • Strategic Planning and Leadership
    • Develop and implement an IT strategy aligned with the firm's objectives.
    • Lead and manage the IT department ensuring high performance, reliability, and security of all systems and services.
    • Collaborate with executive and national leadership teams to drive digital transformation initiatives and offshoring initiatives.

  • IT Infrastructure and Operations
    • Oversee the management and optimization of IT infrastructure, ensuring elevated levels of performance, security, and reliability.
    • Ensure the effective management of data centers, network infrastructure, and enterprise applications.
    • Implement robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with accounting industry standards and regulations.

  • Financial Management
    • Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring prudent financial management and cost control.
    • Identify and pursue opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies through technology.

  • Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the IT team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of IT staff to build a high-performing team both in the US and offshore.

  • . Vendor and Stakeholder Management
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective IT services.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand their technology needs and deliver appropriate solutions that support business objectives.

  • Risk Management and Compliance
    • Develop and implement IT policies and procedures to manage risk and ensure data integrity and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
    • Oversee IT governance, risk management, and compliance activities to safeguard Grant Thornton’s assets and brand reputation.

  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement
    • Stay on top of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on Grant Thornton’s operations.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance IT service delivery, streamline processes, and support business growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You have the following technical skills and qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field, is required. Advanced or masters’ degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 13 plus years of related work experience, preferably within a large professional services or accounting firm.
  • Relevant certification required. If you do not hold a relevant certification at time of hire, you may be able to earn one within 18 months of starting with Grant Thornton.
  • Proven record of developing and executing successful IT strategies that drive business growth and operational efficiency.
  • Extensive experience with IT infrastructure management, enterprise systems, cybersecurity, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing IT teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leadership and external partners.
  • Solid financial acumen, with experience in managing budgets, controlling costs, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards, compliance requirements, and risk management best practices.
  • Ability to travel as needed. Expect up to 40% travel.

  • Benefits for internship positions: Grant Thornton interns are eligible to participate in the firm’s medical, dental and vision insurance programs and the firm’s employee assistance program. Interns also receive a minimum of 72 hours of paid sick leave, and are paid for firm holidays that fall within their internship period.

Grant Thornton employees may be eligible for a discretionary, annual bonus based on individual and firm performance, subject to the terms, conditions and eligibility criteria of the applicable bonus plan or program. Interns and seasonal employees are not eligible for bonus compensation.
