Essential Job Duties
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ( ECE ) at NC State University is seeking a Communications Associate to enhance our internal and external communications. This junior-level role supports our efforts to effectively market our faculty, students, and research.
This individual will work alongside the Communications Manager, Marketing Communications Specialist, and key external stakeholders, gaining advanced experience in marketing, science communications, and public relations amid a respected and growing MarComm unit.

Other Work/Responsibilities
- Content Creation: Write compelling and clear prose on technical topics, research reports, and student experiences/activities. Assist in video and photo production to enhance storytelling whenever appropriate.
- Social Media Contribution: Assist in contributing to ECE’s social media channels, including LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and X.
- Email Newsletters: Support the creation and distribution of newsletters to both internal and external audiences.
- Event Promotion: Aid in promoting events and activities within the department.
- Web Content: Assist in basic support for ECE and research-related websites utilizing WordPress.
- Publication and Donor Support: Contribute original content for the Spotlight Magazine and support alumni communications, particularly around NC State’s Day of Giving.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Marketing Communications Specialist to produce web content, printed materials, and other recruitment and marketing collateral (e.g., posters, flyers, kiosks).
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in a closely related field that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities needed in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Strong written communication skills, especially in technical writing and storytelling.
- Basic understanding of social media platforms and content creation.
- Ability to write engaging content on technical subjects.
- Good instinct for visual presentation of material.
- Experience with graphic design or multimedia tools, including Adobe Creative Cloud products..
- Familiarity with DSLR or mirrorless cameras in photography or videography.
- Familiarity with WordPress CMS .
- Knowledge of higher education or technical fields is a plus.
- Careful attention to detail and ability to collaborate effectively.
