Job Title: Dean of Instruction

Reports to: Campus Director

Purpose

The Campus Director provides leadership, direction, supervision, and accountability for the delegated campus and its programs. The Campus Director organizes, directs, evaluates, and supervises the campus staff. The Campus Director provides instructional leadership and develops and implements curriculum and programming for the campus programs with a sense of urgency. The Campus Director is solution-oriented and a creative problem solver with experience in data analysis and creating and managing systems; Setting high expectations and communicating to a variety of stakeholders; and effectively interacting with people across cultures.

Essential Functions

  • Establishes and maintains a safe, effective learning climate in the school by implementing student behavior, attendance, social-emotional support, and school safety programs that are aligned with district policies.
  • Must be able to drive actions to set challenging goals and reach a high standard of performance despite barriers.
  • A demonstrative track record of improving student outcomes and implementing initiatives to accomplish sustainable results by holding people accountable for performance.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment.
  • Monitors teacher and student success in classes through formal and informal observations.
  • Promotes and encourages the success of every student by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture by providing a culturally relevant instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
  • Uses data to plan and solve problems and be able to see patterns and links among seemingly unrelated issues or ideas with the ability to break things down in a logical way and to recognize cause and effect.
  • Develops and coordinates educational programs through meetings with staff, reviews of teachers’ activities, and issuance of directives.
  • Partners with teachers, students, and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school.
  • Oversees the direction of the preparation of master schedules, cumulative records, and attendance reports.
  • Regularly check buildings and property to ensure safety and secu
  • rity.
  • Plan ways to market the school to increase enrollment and maintain ADA.
  • Coordinates, implements, and monitors the effectiveness of a non-traditional instructional schedule that provides both structure and flexibility to meet the individual needs of diverse students.
  • Ensures coordination of effective instructional programs with a master schedule.
  • Develops goals and objectives consistent with district goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates positive, collaborative leadership and participates in problem-solving in a variety of situations and departments, emphasizing teamwork and beneficial effects on student learning.
  • Ensures students, parents, staff, and the community are aware of the unique services and programs available.
  • Establishes and maintains positive, proactive public relations and clear, consistent communications within the school, across the district, and throughout the surrounding community, including program marketing and student outreach.
  • Ensure clarity regarding enrollment application and admission procedures.
  • Ensures the development of mentorships for teachers.
  • Coordinates the development of the school improvement plan and existing district instructional models in accordance with the district mission.
  • Using the T-TESS evaluation system, providing expectations for an orderly atmosphere, holding data discussions with staff and teachers, and adapting to the needs of the current situation by seeking input.
  • Utilizes the accountability process and involves and reports to parents as appropriate.
  • Organizes campus operations around improvement of instruction by maintaining safe and orderly environments.
  • Upholds state laws, contracts, and district policies maintaining the facility to provide a quality learning environment, and efficiently managing fiscal resources. Supervises the ordering, inventory, and distribution of materials and equipment.
  • Analyzes program facilities, equipment, and materials and makes recommendations for needed changes.
  • Manages campus facilities, develops disaster, safety, crisis, and evacuation plans, and ensures the security of buildings.
  • Oversees program efficiency and required state and district compliance records.
  • Prepares and generates related reports and documentation of administrative activities.
  • Hires supervises and evaluates campus staff.
  • Ensures adequate and effective staffing to carry out program priorities.
  • Supports staff in curriculum and professional development and in coordinating and implementing special projects.
  • Prepares and oversees the campus budget. . Provides budgetary guidance in the selection of instructional material for the program.
  • The Campus Director directly supervises lead teachers, teaching staff, and para-professionals assigned to the campus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced communication, public relations, instruction, curriculum, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, facilitation, management, critical thinking, decision making, and organizational skills English language skills are required; oral and written fluency in a second language may be preferred or required based on building assignments.
  • Ability to implement research-based instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of curriculum design and alignment.
  • Ability to support cross-curricular/interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
  • Ability to work well with others in a diverse educational community.
  • Ability to coach and develop learners.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

  • Ability to perform responsibilities without the necessity of close supervision.

  • Proficient in the use of personal computers and common software applications such as Google.

  • Education/Certification

    Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree strongly preferred in Education or a related field.
  • Texas mid-management or other appropriate Texas certificate preferred.
  • T-TESS certified.

  • Experience

  • Classroom teaching experience (3-5 years minimum)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in building administration
  • Experience providing coaching and technical assistance to peer and non-peer audiences
  • Experience in an elementary and middle school setting is strongly preferred

  • Mental/Physical Demands

  • Requires the ability to maintain emotional control under stress
  • Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 30 lbs. and other routine physical activities
  • Ability to hear and see (with correction) at levels to ensure accurate job performance
  • Ability to stand, walk and sit—occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance
