Position Summary

The Director of Business Development for Private Equity will lead strategic growth initiatives within the Private Equity sector to expand KSM services, including transaction advisory, assurance, and tax services. This role requires an experienced professional with a robust network in the finance and deal-making community, a deep understanding of the financial landscape, and a proven ability to drive business growth. The role will report directly to KSM’s Chief Growth Officer and Transaction Advisory Services Partner. This person will identify new business opportunities, build, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, and help develop strategies to expand our market presence and client base.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Chief Growth Officer and Transaction Advisory Services Partner to formulate and execute comprehensive business development strategies to drive growth in the Private Equity sector.
  • Identify and target prospective clients within the Private Equity community, leveraging existing networks and conducting market research to generate leads.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with private equity sponsors, investment banks, family offices, professional service providers, and other key stakeholders to foster trust and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with KSM’s Marketing Growth advisor to conduct in-depth market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and competitive landscape to inform strategic decisions for the team.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including transaction advisory, tax and assurance, and other advisory team members to align business development efforts with service offerings and ensure seamless client service delivery.
  • Represent KSM at industry conferences and events. Additionally, develop and participate in the strategy for selecting which conferences and events to attend and curate opportunities to expand the team’s professional network, build relationships, and enhance visibility for the firm.
  • Utilize LinkedIn and other social media channels to identify and connect with potential clients, share relevant content, engage with industry leaders, and build a professional network to support business development strategies and increase market presence.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to business development activities, providing regular updates to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with KSM’s Marketing Growth Advisor on the development of compelling proposals and presentations to potential clients, highlighting KSM’s expertise and value.
  • Contribute to KSM’s thought leadership initiatives by understanding current industry trends and identifying key topics that would be of interest to current and potential clients. Work to help our KSM subject matter experts gain opportunities to speak at key events.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development, sales, or a related role within the Private Equity sector, financial services, or other highly technical industries.
  • Extensive network of contacts within the Private Equity community, including PE firms, investment banks, family offices, law firms, lenders, and other industry influencers.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence and negotiate at senior levels.
  • In-depth understanding of the Private Equity landscape, including industry trends, regulatory environment, and financial principles.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing business development strategies that drive significant revenue growth.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM software.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients, attend industry events, and support business development activities.
