Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate VP DevOps, the Director, Infrastructure Services is responsible for architecting, implementing, availability, maintenance and security of all campus networking, Internet connectivity and IP telephony services. The Director of Infrastructure Services analyzes network metrics and recommends upgrades/changes; assesses the organization’s current and future network needs in relation to university goals.

The Director leads a team with the skill set to respond to the strategic goals of the university community in relation to data communications, with a commitment to customer service, following industry standards and service delivery. This position communicates with the University community to understand their network and voice requirements. The Director clearly communicates with stakeholders to ensure integration of services.

This position may require occasional evening, weekend, and holiday hours.

Essential Functions

Collaborates with senior leadership to develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for campus networking, Internet connectivity, and IP telephony services that supports the university’s mission and goals.

Leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure solutions to ensure continuous availability and optimal performance of networking and telephony services.

Regularly assesses network performance metrics, identifies bottlenecks and areas for improvement, and recommends and implements upgrades and changes to enhance efficiency and meet evolving needs.

Provides strong leadership and direction to the infrastructure services team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning to drive excellence in service delivery and support.

Actively engages with university stakeholders to understand their wired and wireless networking and telephony requirements, prioritizes initiatives, and ensures alignment with organizational objectives, fostering strong relationships and trust.

Ensures compliance with relevant regulations and standards governing networking and telephony services, and implements robust security measures to safeguard data and infrastructure against threats and vulnerabilities.

Management Responsibilities Provides strategic leadership and supervises others who supervise. Responsible for hiring, training, developing, managing performance, administering corrective action, makes compensation decisions and for managing strategic views at a high level.

Additional Functions

Manages relationships with vendors and service providers, negotiates contracts, and oversees service level agreements to ensure the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective solutions and services.

Develops and manages budgets for infrastructure projects, resources, and operations, tracking expenses and ensuring fiscal responsibility while maximizing the value and effectiveness of investments.

Stays abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in networking, telephony, and related fields, and evaluates their potential impact and relevance to the university’s infrastructure and operations.

Develops and maintains comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans ensuring rapid response and minimal disruption in the event of system failures or disasters.

Develops and delivers training programs and documentation for end-users and technical staff on networking and telephony systems, processes, and best practices to promote adoption and proficiency.

Drives continuous improvement initiatives across infrastructure services, soliciting feedback, measuring performance, and implementing process enhancements to optimize efficiency, reliability, and user satisfaction.

Ensures a focus on sustainability in the acquisition of network hardware.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer related field, or in lieu of degree, 8+ years relevant experience.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience supporting and operating 3 or more current technologies, such as:

  • SD- WAN , firewall management, network architecture, artificial intelligence, cloud environment Salesforce, Google Workspaces, Form Assembly, Azure AD, Office 365, Zoom, ServiceNow, and Acoustic.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

Certification in relevant fields such as network design and operations

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated understanding of Fordham’s culture and environment, as well as the technical, business, and cultural environment of higher education in general.

Experience with Higher education or similar industries from a functional and technical perspective.

The ability to analyze and identify functional and technical opportunities, risks, and issues and direct others on the appropriate course of action.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.

Independent management of own workflow and work outcomes.

Customer service experience.

Ability to interact professionally with staff, faculty, and students.

Interaction and collaboration with vendors.

Minimum Starting Salary $144,000

Maximum Starting Salary $180,000
