Elementary Instrumental Orchestra/General Music Teacher

The State College Area School District is accepting applications for an Elementary Instrumental Strings/General Music Teacher. This position will include small group instrument lessons for fourth and fifth-grade string students on violin, viola, cello, and double bass, as well as direct these students in orchestra ensemble rehearsals and performances. The position may involve lessons at several buildings as well as some general education music lessons.

The District seeks dynamic, energetic educators who are student-focused and have knowledge of both theory and practice specific to the education of elementary instrumental learners including, but not limited to, teaching proper string technique and tone production throughout lessons, fostering a positive and fun learning environment where creativity is encouraged through practice incentives and learning games, collaborating effectively with elementary string faculty, aligning with the SCASD string curriculum to equitably support string students, and communicating well with families, administration, and colleagues.

Organizational and collaborative skills are critical to success in this position. The District is searching for candidates who demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development and also possess a variety of professional experiences. This candidate must be willing to work with colleagues within the music department, as well as the teachers in each building, to provide the best instrumental education for students.
