The primary responsibility of a faculty member at Baker College is to advance the College's mission of delivering high-quality education through exceptional teaching, scholarly research, service to the academic community, and a steadfast commitment to the student-first philosophy. The cyclical process of teaching and learning underpins the duties of Baker College faculty. To continually enhance student success, faculty members must create optimal learning environments, deliver high-quality instruction, and consistently evaluate their own performance, their students, and their teaching methods to foster educational effectiveness.

Faculty members are responsible for managing class and learning environments, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within their expertise, maintaining attendance records, submitting grades on time, and providing constructive feedback. They utilize the College’s Learning Management System, deliver effective instruction, oversee curriculum rigor and quality, and design engaging, student-centered learning activities. Faculty also integrate community-based learning into the curriculum, assess student learning using various techniques, and communicate results regularly. Additionally, they stay current in their fields, maintain professional qualifications, innovate curriculum development, establish community partnerships, and participate in campus and community events. Faculty engage in scholarly activities and mentor students in community engagement projects.

Requirements

A Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university is preferred, while a Master of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited college or university is required. Candidates must hold an unrestricted nursing license from the Michigan State Board of Nursing. Clinical experience in Medical/Surgical and Mental Health specialties is preferred, as is at least two years of college-level teaching experience. Experience with accreditation is also preferred. The candidate must be willing to travel to clinical sites and off-site system meetings. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps is required, along with excellent written and presentation skills.
