JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Home-Based Manager, the Family Development Advocate (FDA) promotes the Parent, Family and Community Engagement Framework outcomes. This includes empowering parents by building partnerships based on shared responsibility, promoting family well-being, communicating with skill and heart, and promoting family engagement through a strength-based approach. FDA is responsible for establishing mutually respectful trusting relationships with families, that will help foster parenting skills and empower parents to be their child’s first teacher. This position includes one-on-one meetings with families to conduct home visits, establish individualized goals, conduct group meetings with families, data entry, and recordkeeping.

Essential Job Duties

  • Engages families as advocates, lifelong educators, and first teachers of their children by creating family and father-friendly environments that are welcoming and comfortable.

Associate Director of Education.

  • Provide ongoing recruitment and enrollment of new families to ensure that full enrollment is met.
  • Establish and maintain up-to-date program data and maintain current documentation of family and child records and program activities in ChildPlus and child’s file. Run regular ChildPlus reports to monitor and comply with mandated paperwork and program timelines.
  • Following enrollment, screen and secure health services for assigned children, including developmental screenings. Ensure screenings and follow-up procedures are completed as needed within the designated timeframe and maintain records to document efforts.
  • Identify health, dental, nutrition, and mental health needs of assigned children (i.e., allergies, medication, disability concerns). Assist parents to obtain necessary documentation to accommodate child’s needs in a classroom setting.
  • Participate in the facilitation of group connections.
  • Assist families in the Family Partnership Agreement process, including identifying community resources.
  • Participate and lead Pre-service/In-Service, new hire Training.
  • Conduct Home Base home visit utilizing Parent as Teachers curriculum as needed.
  • Empower families to advocate for themselves and their children.
  • Operate within Early Head Start Program Policies and Procedures and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality as required by St. Anne’s Family Services, Licensing, HIPAA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Attend staff meetings and recommended training programs as assigned.
  • Provide prenatal education and support to expectant mothers that will build and promote parent-child bonding and attachment.
  • Utilize Parents as Teachers (PAT) Curriculum to complete individualized lesson plans and promote expectant mothers’ parenting skills.
  • Implement Creative Curriculum to work with children in a classroom-setting.

Secondary Job Duties

  • Participate in the Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) program of the agency.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Social Services, or related field required.
  • Six Infant-Toddler Child Development Units required.
  • Teacher permit or higher required.
  • Excellent service skills with clients, visitors, volunteers, and employees.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid CA driver’s license, automobile insurance and driving record acceptable to agency’s insurance carrier during the entire tenure of position employment.
  • Preferred: Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback.
