The Global Process Manager is critical for global R&D to drive successful development & scale-up of new processes and technologies, optimization of existing process, management of critical processing risk for new products development and provide technical support to factories, at a global level, with an emphasis on spray drying and liquids thermal heating. This also includes leveraging external research providers, cross-segment collaborations. They will need to provide the best process technology solutions and factory support to meet the design requirements and the business targets. In this role, they will also develop and implement key processes from material and process selection to optimized volume production.

The Manager will work in cross-functional project teams to deliver new product innovations and renovations to the global market. You will work with a high variety of stakeholders ranging from Operations, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Internal factories and external stakeholders (Suppliers and potentially 3rd Party Manufacturers). This position reports to the Science & Technology Global Director. The position will be based in St. Louis, MO (USA). This site has a state-of-the-art high-tech production and research facility for the USA & global market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Making & executing strategy aligned to global and regional needs for new & existing processing capabilities
  • Develop and scale-up key new technologies and processes to enable the S&T pipeline strategy
  • Support technical and process improvement projects for equipment and vision systems
  • Root cause problem-solving and analysis of new and existing processes, delivery, and cost targets to support production scale-up
  • Implement new equipment validation and continuously improve our existing equipment to enable the global scaling of our organization
  • Develop and optimize new and existing manufacturing processes
  • Identify and implement processes to support new product introduction into the supply chain
  • Design, develop and implement test plans, validation documents, and complete activities
  • Drive development of process specifications and translation into engineering design
  • Partner with Product Sciences and manage critical processing risks to ensure a seamless implementation from new product concept to production
  • Develop and execute the trial plan and risk management process for new process development and implementation
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams responsible for innovation projects from concept to execution
  • Represent Process Development & Optimization in various multi-disciplinary teams / projects to ensure all processing & technology considerations are met
  • Manage technology projects conducted by external research providers
  • Ensure all new processes and process modifications meet global standards by leading and participating in HACCP studies, design reviews and executing any actions relating to process design, commissioning, or training
  • Contributor and decision maker in forums in relation to company science & factory operating systems
  • Manage intellectual property, invention, patents and portfolio compliance
  • Go to technology expert for evaluation, development, and implementation of the technologies
  • Responsible for communication (both written and verbal) of key project / technical findings, inform and influence project team and key stakeholders for further decision making
  • Responsible for writing high quality technical projects and reports and make sure knowledge transfer happens seamlessly

Technical Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, preferably in the flavor or food industry, with the ability to demonstrate a proven track record in related technologies. Experience should include process development and scale-up
  • Experience in a Manufacturing and/or Industrial Engineering role in a medium to high-volume manufacturing, in a highly regulated industry, seen as a plus
  • Good understanding and experience in (pet) food unit operations – material handling, mixing, filling and thermal process. Experience in flavor encapsulation would be preferred
  • Good understanding of food chemistry, assurance & microbiology through practical experiences
  • Experienced in using research methods, experimental designs, and data analysis. Perform data analysis, structured problem solving, create reports and documents, and present results
  • Understand fundamentals of good project management and be able to use in the projects on daily basis
  • Learn skills – driving continuous improvements, process capability
  • Hands-on mentality and strong collaboration with all teams
  • Six Sigma Green belt or Black belt certified or working towards certification

Travel Capability

  • Being a global role, the success requires ad-hoc global travel, 20-30% (domestic and international); concentrated during peak project cycles
  • The ability to work cross time zones as well as the ability to hold a passport and obtain Visa’s for relevant countries is mandatory
