Watkinson School, offering inventive teaching and learning since 1881, seeks an experienced History teacher who will also serve as Assistant for Community, Equity, and Inclusion. Reporting directly to the Division Head and to the Director of Community, Equity, and Inclusion, the Assistant will support and facilitate Watkinson’s efforts to be a truly inclusive community and foster a sense of belonging. This is a full-time, 10-month position, which includes classroom teaching and advising.
Dividing their time equally between classroom teaching and supporting the Community, Equity, and Inclusion efforts of the school, the Assistant will be an experienced educator first and foremost, with a track record of productively and collaboratively engaging within a school community. The Assistant will be well-versed in Community, Equity, and Inclusion best practices and will apply this knowledge fairly, respectfully, responsively, and actively in their daily work. The successful candidate will have experience building trusting relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, as well as creating and/or implementing structures that sustain Watkinson’s equity and anti-racism initiatives over time.
The New Assistant Will Bring To The Position
A strong commitment and demonstrated skill in building community, equity, and inclusion
Experience with and enthusiasm for teaching middle school students
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills that reach all age groups and constituencies within our school community
Strong ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
An ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
Excellent organization, attention to detail, and timely and thorough work completion
Passion, joy, flexibility, approachability, and a sense of humor
Key Responsibilities Will Include
Teaching two history classes, being an academic advisor, and taking on other aspects of school life and activity
In collaboration with the Director, planning and supporting the facilitation of CEI and anti-racism professional learning
Coordinating the logistics of CEI-sponsored events and initiatives, including Watkinson’s Summer SPHERE program
Supporting the work of on-campus affinity groups
Supporting parent and alumni engagement efforts
Collaborating and coordinating with programs and departments across the school
Taking on other duties to support the work of Community, Equity, and Inclusion at the school.
