Maintenance Mechanic II

Summary: Maintenance Mechanic II is responsible for performing mechanical, basic electrical and preventative maintenance on boilers, air compressors and manufacturing equipment of baggers, pre-expansion machines, cooling towers and conveyors used to produce foam cups, lids, and plastic straw

Functions:

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of complex machinery that are mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic in nature by using drawings, diagrams, operational manuals, manufacturing specifications, etc. Uses a variety of tools including specialized and precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Diagnoses and analyze problems by inspecting and disassembling equipment to determine extent of repairs.
  • General understanding of how PLC’s and control wiring functions. Perform minor troubleshooting.
  • Performs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, hydro and basic electrical repairs to manufacturing equipment.
  • Repairs and re-build parts used for lift, bagger, pre-expansion conveyors, pneumatic valves, molds, etc.
  • Troubleshoots and rebuild motors, blowers, gearboxes, pumps, belts, valves, regulators, VFD and other mechanical equipment.
  • Performs and troubleshoots minor electrical issues associated with boilers, air compressors, cooling tower, pre-expansion and ancillary equipment.
  • Obtain hot work permits and completes minor welding jobs.
  • Repairs cup molds and perform mold change-overs on cup machines.
  • Actively pursues continuous improvement to reduce downtime and improve equipment efficiency.
  • Comply with all safety rules, policies, procedures and practices to include performing LOTO of production equipment when required.
  • Line shutdowns and start-ups to ensure all support equipment and utilities are ready for production.
  • Diagnose and determine cause for machine malfunctions along with making troubleshooting adjustments to assigned machines.
  • Responsible for informing the leadership team immediately of any failure to meet established safety and quality standards to ensure that corrective action is taken.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area and equipment at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Team Lead, Team Supervisor or Department Manager.


Physical Demands:

  • Work an 8+ or 12+ hour shift while sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping, use hands to finger, grasp with hands and arms, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and lifting throughout the entire shift.
  • Requires the manual movement of items that weight up to 50 pounds.


Working Conditions:

  • Exposed to extreme heat. In-doors in a manufacturing environment that is not air conditioned.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles
  • Wear PPE while working, which includes hairnet, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards.
  • Work an 8+ or 12+ hour day shift
  • Able to work weekdays, weekends and overtime.


Qualifications:

Education – High School Diploma or GED preferred

Experience – Four years maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment repairing production machines. One to 3 years of building maintenance experience in repair and troubleshooting of Boilers, Air Compressors, Plumbing, Carpentry, Welding, Machining, and HVAC. Basic electrical experience. Knowledge of low voltage up to 480V and pneumatic equipment.

Skills – Mechanical aptitude, basic welding and electrical skills. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word). Must be ability to read, write and speak English. Good oral and written communication skills.
